Fred Heinly of Hyline Productions says “Once again we have brought together the two largest DH series on the East Coast.for our big event. We've added some new features to the the famous Bunker and Road Gaps, notably granite stair cases and a brand new jump line. We are really excited for our 11th Duryea Urban Downhill and to be the only race that offers downhill series points from the GES and the ESC.

The Duryea Downhill brings the action to the masses, instead of being held at a ski resort it is contested within the Reading, PA city limits. Racers will be transported to the start in shuttle trucks Saturday and Sunday for practice, with the big race being held Sunday at 1pm.

The VITTORIA Eastern States Cup is excited to be hosting the Duryea Downhill and working with the Gravity East Series. The Duryea DH is the most unique downhill race in the country and it’s a great chance at some early season racing. The road gap is just that, it gaps a city street and this year we'll be racing down staircases in front of a very large and enthusiastic crowd of spectators. This race is part of our Atlantic DH Division and is an awesome opportunity for east coast racers to score points in both series.” says George Ulmer from the ESC.

"The Maxxis Tires Gravity East Series is very excited to continue working with Hyline Productions and the Eastern States Cup in the presentation of the 2015 Duryea Downhill” said Stephen Coleman, race director of the 2015 Maxxis Tires Gravity East Series. “By working together in the best interest of US gravity racing, we hope to grow participation and awareness of the sport while creating great competition for racers of all levels and spectators".

Riders who opted for the Road Gap had about 4 seconds to get ready for it after landing the Bunker. Those who did go for it were rewarded with a massive cheer from the hundreds of spectators lining Duryea Drive in anticipation of high flying action. photo by Brice Shirbach

The Duryea Downhill is a season opening mountain bike festival with tons of spectators, give aways, entertainment, Saturday night activities and a food / beverage court.. You won’t want to miss this event, so please preregister. The field is limited to the first 200 racers and a sell out is expected.

Coming off of the A-Frame riders would then blast the two steepest sections of the course. This section required quick thinking and strong cornering before a road crossing and into the final chute of the race.

Field Limited to 200 racers. Register HERE

Everyone on the podium seemed to have a question.

It took me way longer to get that than I care to admit, was funny though.

The best part about Mt. Penn where this is raced, is that it is part of a public park and other than race day you can shuttle with your friends or bring out the trail bikes and explore the miles of surrounding trails for free. Not many places you can get decent downhill type runs in PA like this without paying to ride a lift.

I like the way it was edited; shot of riders going over features followed by pov of riding same feature. Keep it up! Looks like a fun course too.

The road gap looked more mellow than in past years. Used to be you had to clear the guard rail or your bike got hooked and you took a digger with your helmet as the shovel. Same amount of skill to clear it, just less death if you screw up. Looks like the race is growing up. Very cool.

Any helmet cam course preview vids out there? I fell like those would give you a great sense of everything this track has to offer.

I'd love to come race there, but it's kind of a long haul for me, but you never know.

Reading must be a small town, if this is "urban"
  • 2 1
It's whats around the course that makes it urban. When you pull out of the parking lot and drive a block away you end up in the ghetto.
