The "GraVity Card": Every mountain biker's joker in 2012
Enjoy the freedom and independence your bike gives you on a bike tour or take to the bike park to improve your technical riding skills? This is a common, reoccurring question, arising in many mountain bikers’ minds. However, for many this dilemma was easily solved in the form of the “GraVity Card”. How does this joker card work? The “GraVity Card” gives you access to a diverse, exciting and challenging circuit, combining 11 of Europe’s top bike parks with a full range of mountain biking possibilities at various locations.
Eleven bike parks from Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovenia form the GraVity Card community. All of which combine thrilling and adrenaline pumping bike parks tracks and a seducing choice of epic mountain bike tours. All together, GraVity Card holders have hundreds of possibilities at their disposal, which offer fun and excitement for every rider level. Easily accessible at each of the 11 bike parks via gondola, riders can ride down challenging downhill tracks or along never ending trails in the backcountry. Financially the Gravity Card is also easily accessible: for only 360 Euros per adult (youth: 290 Euros, kids: 180 Euros) every mountain biker can experience tremendous fun at these bike parks for 6 months, beginning end of April. Slovenian bike park Pohorje also noted a surprisingly high number of international visitors during the 2012 season.
Furthermore, over the years the GraVity Card bike parks have established themselves as the main stage for international mountain biking events on a European and global scale. The best example is the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships in the Austrian region of Saalfelden Leogang, which took place from the end of August till early September 2012. This event was a major success and could not have been any more exciting.
Doris Grogger, communications manager for the Bikepark Tirol in the Austrian region Wipptal, describes the Brenner downhill race as “the definite event highlight” of 2012 at Bikepark Tirol. In early June, 500 participants from 18 nations made their way down the trail during this round of the iXS German Downhill Cup. The Conti Bikepark Bad Wildbad in June 2012 held the German 4X Championship. At the Austrian Bikepark Zau[:ber:]g the spectacular and legendary 24-hour downhill race took place for the 6th time. Another Austrian bike park - Planai, organized the Austrian Downhill Championship. The race drew in “a lot of riders and a very dedicated audience to Schladming” comments Philipp Walcher, managing director of the park. Bikepark Winterberg had a very successful year, hosting more than over 35,000 viewers for the widely known iXS Dirtmasters festival and the DH-race for the iXS German Downhill Cup being only one of super exciting events. All in all, the participating GraVity Card bike parks have become prime international biking locations. The chance for amateur riders to experience their mountain biking qualities is a great progression for the sport.
A day at a bike park is a thrilling experience but for those looking to learn and develop their riding level, Gravity Card bike parks also offer a range of camps and courses. The Rookie Downhill Days in Bikepark Tirol, was a unique occasion for young talents to get some riding tips from the worldcup downhill team MS Mondraker. Amongst them Brook MacDonald, winner of this year’s worldcup round in Val d’Isère, France. Countless riding camps - available at small additional costs - greatly complement the 11 bike park’s offer and maximize user value of the GraVity Card.
Even though the season is coming to an end, there are still memorable experiences to be had. Last weekend, at the closing ceremony in Bikepark Wagrain, riders traveled up to the summit station via the “Flying Mozart” gondola and descended across challenging alpine trails, accessing the various tracks in the bike park. Ending the season on a high, with kilometers of action packed trails and tracks is certain to give you the feeling of satisfaction. Furthermore, on last weekend Bikepark Pohorje hosted the Spank Mountainbike Weekend with one of the highlights being the ‘whip contest’.
For 2013, organizers of the 11 GraVity Card bike parks are looking to continuously expand the available number of tracks and touring routes. For example, the Austrian Bikepark Saalbach-Hinterglemm is going to open a new freeride track, located at the legendary “Zwölferkogel” in addition to its new modern pump track. The crew at MTB Zone Bikepark Geisskopf is proud to announce the expansion of the well-known “Flow country trail”, being “a favorite amongst bike park users”. The building-up of the track ideally complements the range of selective, challenging lines such as the “Bergstadl-Trail” which can already be found at the bike park. Likewise, all the various lines in the GraVity Card bike parks are maintained and shaped to the highest standard, guaranteeing users the maximum riding-pleasure, experience and a high learning curve in 2013.
