Over the past few weekends work has been taking place at Moelfre by MTBuplifts.co.uk to build a new track. With the British Downhill Series heading to Moelfre in 2015, it would be great to get the new track done before Winter sets in to allow it to settle by 2015. Hence, the 'Dig & Ride' Weekend on 13th - 14th September 2014.

If you dig Saturday, you will be entitled to a FREE UPLIFT Sunday from Farmer Jack and MTBuplifts.co.uk as a thank you for your help.

Getting to Moelfre

First things first, the Moelfre Downhill track isn't on Anglesey but near Oswestry - Make sure your Sat Nav isn't taking you to Anglesey. Here are the directions:

Head along the B4580 by the Old Race Course, through Llawnt, through Rhydycroesau and then into Llansilin. The road curves left (there's a phone box on the right hand side). After 50 yards turn the first right by the 4x4 garage and then first right again, signposted Moelfre. Head up and follow the road to the left, after a mile and almost at the bottom of the dip turn right. Follow the road up for one mile, taking caution through the narrow lanes and twisty corners and the race venue will greet you on the right hand side. Sat Nav users use Llansilin or this postcode: SY10 7QJ

Event Location:

MTBuplifts.co.uk Hi everyone We are building a completely new A line track at moelfre with really big featured but all these will have an easyer option running alongside for those not to confident we put in a fast run last Sunday to a hip jump that is 8ft high at the take off and gaps 20ft to a landing into a sweet berm there are pictures on our Facebook page with a pickup parked in the gap to get the scale it is going to be a full on wild and wicked track with a second choice smaller feature running along side so it can be enjoyed by all level of riders , once we have finished this which will be called The Macmillan dream line after the charity we support we will close the old track and do the same on that side , also we are going to build in inter connecting runs between the two so race organisers have a much bigger choice of runs for events , this will take us about twelve months from start to finish but with your help we can shorten this time a lot so come on over this weekend and see the progress so far I think you will be very surprised , thanks for taking the time to read Lucy's blog and to keep up to speed check out the Facebook page at MTBuplifts.co.uk John...

We are going to tidy up the original track once we have finished this main pro line. And Lucy is adding a track too, more the merrier we can get this done and dusted and ridden in before winter Smile

The new line we have started is on the far left of the original track and runs down the opposite side of the hill. We have currently out in a mega fast mega flowy top section, so straight out of the start gate your knot huge sweeping berms and massive doubles and hip jumps then down to a fast long off camber section which shoots you back across the hillside through a series if switchbacks, then down a fast shoot to build up speed for the next section which is at the top of the original line down past the fire road, it's going to be incredible once it's done. I can't wait to see all out hard work pay off when everyone is enjoying themselves on an epic track Smile

Glad to see it's being renovated. Are you planting any trees? Winds always been a problem up there! I hope you have wide landings for the big doubles!

No trees I don't think. I think we'll definitely have to have some wide landings!

this sounds good to me as its not far from home, what level will the tracks being built be, me and my son have started riding some downhill this year, we can ride the red and some black trails at bike park wales well enough, and ride the blue and red at antur stiniog also without problems, will these trails be specifically for experienced downhillers or will there be easier trails for less experienced riders.

Moelfre is perfect for beginners! I rode there a month after getting my DH bike. Especially the original track. There's a few big jumps on the new track but all will be possible to roll around. The track a friend and I marked out is more aimed at beginners. I'll get back to you after asking the lads who've been building there more recently than I have!

Read the comments above from Dane and John and they describe the tracks much better!

Wow amazing things in the pipeline!! We'll be over to support and help out on the next one.. N.Wales and surrounding areas are such buzzing places to ride at the moment.. Exciting times :-)

If I wasn't working away I'd be there, it'd be great to contribute to a new track in a venue we all want to have a new track at. Sentence sounds weird ha

Don't worry. They'll be plenty of uplifts to help bed the track in! Like MTBuplifts.co.uk on Facebook and you'll be kept up to date about all the upcoming uplifts on there! May need some more help over the Winter, not just this weekend. I'll keep everyone up to date through my blogs and MTBuplifts.co.uk will do on their Facebook page Smile

I seriously can not wait to ride the new tracks they're awesome!

You're digging on the other side of the hill?
  • 1 0
Yeah. If you're looking down the original track and look left you can see a wall. The new track goes along that wall, weaves down the hill and goes down to the fire road (but not cross it) and up onto the other hill. And goes down the steep track on the other hill rather than use the original track.

I've marked out another track too that cuts off the new track to a little drop and will cut through the gorse bushes to the original track for a split second and use an old track that's not been ridden for a while and back onto the original track by the stream

Will make more sense if you can get to an uplift or this weekend! There's a lot of berms that need shaping!

I think the steep track down the other hill is the original track. Looks sweet though.

what time will you be starting work and finishing on the saturday

Sorry for the late reply! We'll probably get there for about 9/10 this morning and possibly be digging till it starts to go dark. Not entirely sure as everyone is making their way to Moelfre so won't be able to reply to my messages. Hopefully see you there!
