Hooning a Mk2 Escort around an Airfield

Me having a go in the Escort with the new sequential box on a track on a nearby airfield, too much fun! Apologies for poor audio quality, and the timestamp is off, the date is 28/4/2013 Second half of the track was freshly soaped hence the slower driving, had done a few runs earlier in the dry which were faster but the camera wasn't on :(

Thanks man! I wish I'd recorded the earlier runs I did when the whole track was dry as these were my first runs on the soaped track. Either way, my dad is a great driver, but as you can see by this video a terrible passenger, watch how much he gets thrown around bless him lol

Nice driving, car sounds sweet! I did my scooby rally experience there, its a pretty top course!

Thanks man! Yeah I liked the idea of just driving our own car without an instructor as it meant I was able to push myself a little, I think my fastest lap I did on this clip was a 1:20 but I was getting about 1:10 in the dry. Can't wait to do it again! The new sequential box is sweet as a nut, can't wait until we sort the ECU out so we can have flat shift, that way you only use the clutch when you pull off, then you just red line it and pull the next gear, can't wait for that!

Yeah I bet you can, sounds awesome. I'd love to go back! That sounds sick.. the box looks so fun!

It is man, that clunk when you put it into first is so satisfying, you feel the whole car give a snap like its ready to go, so sick!

Jealous! I want one now! Do you and your dad own this and work on it or something?
  • + 1
Yeah he built it himself and competes in it, I was just lucky enough to have a go on this track for the day, though I do help him work on it from time to time. I'm looking into getting a cheapish 3 series to do the same thing in though! Won't be anything like this as its probably got the best part of £60k put into it by now lol I'm thinking more so do up a cheap £500 E36 323ci lol

Awesome, top guy! 60k?! Good god..
Yeah get on that! Would be so much fun!

Yeah man, built it up over years, made it better and better, that gearbox was only put in last week, we did this as its bedded it in a little! And yeah I'm probably gonna sell my hardtail to fund a the 3 series, but I have to wait a little as the problem is where to put it lol

It looks it too! You have skills Wink Have you drove/do you plan on driving track days at circuits like Silverstone etc.??

Cheers lol These were actually my slower laps too as the second half of the track had just been soaped, and I'd just gotten used to the track being dry lol And nah nothing atm as its quite far away, though my dad's cousin is the health and safety manager there and can probably get us in a little cheaper, but track days are crazy expensive, this whole thing cost £40! And its only 20 minutes down the road!

I can imagine wet tarmac in that beast Eek And I didn't realise track days were a lot to enter. Damn. But that track looks a hell of a lot of fun to drive on regardless.

Oh yeah great fun! And yeah well not only was it wet tarmac but it has this soapy/oily stuff in the water to make it extra slippery so the little FWD cars can do handbrake turns around the hairpins, but for anything with more power it was like an ice rink if you put the power down, hence why I took it gentle on the last half, shame as it was so much more fun in the dry Frown

Wait until the summer for another chance to hoon on that track. It should be perfectly dry if they don't soap it up!
  • + 1
Well it was perfectly dry before they soaped it, but nevermind, was still great fun, want to buy something cheap to turn into a rally car now lol

Do eeet if you can. Would be awesome building your own car, just a lot of £££.
  • + 1
Well I could get a small 1.8 compact 3 series and kit it out for about £1,600, as I don't have to insure, tax or MOT it as its not for road use, but its still money :/

Very true, but worth it for the buzz, haha.

Oh yeah I mean if I had it I wouldn't hesitate to spend it, its just getting it!
