Yeaaaaahh!!! This is what lurred me away from NASCAR. Like catfish bait. Lol!

I was involved with it for awhile, worked on one of these monsters. I miss it! I need $800,500! Razz

@therealtylerdurden: That's so cool! I was never really a NASCAR fan to say, but drag racing I really loved! I had a friend whose Uncle raced in the late '70's early '80's...we would "help" him out at the track and in the garage when we were kids...he had a 1970 Chevelle he would drag...

@therealtylerdurden: f*ck yeah ! Now theres some race shit I can get behind! I love those thingz!

@sterlingmagnum: f*ck yeah!! Those big bumps you see em flying over are 3-4 feet deep, like a massive washboard! The truck equivalent of a dh bike Big Grin

@FIVE8FIVE Hell yeah! 70-72 Chevelles are tied with a few others for #1 favorite muscle car! Was never a huge drag racing guy.. But it's really stinkin cool regardless. Any form of motorsports is to me. If it's loud and fast, I like!

Did ya know the stoichiometric ratio for nitro in the top fuelers is around 2:1?? Madness!! I bet a garden hose could axt as an injector! lol

Some truly amazing technology in those. That insane afr's to get 8-10,000 hp!

@therealtylerdurden: What team ? I was with Wide Open Baja for 10 years, and raced a 1600 in the MORE series for a while. Ya, miss it !

No shit? Cool! What caused you to get out? I chased for Bob Shepards TT back in '06. I was only 19, and without any experience, and being a dumb kid who thought he knew everything lol, we ended up parted ways, on amiable terms though.

Still talk to Rick Geiser every now and then. Learned a lot of useful skills the past decade, so I'm sure I could get back into it, just been distracted with other stuff.

I think another reason I haven't bothered getting back into chasing is that, while I've become a pretty damn proficient mechanic, I'm a driver at heart. It's bittersweet to see even a class 11 go by and not be in the drivers seat.

When I go back to Baja, I'd like to actually be racing. In the meantime, prerunning is pretty satisfying.

@therealtylerdurden: I've known Rick for years, I remember when he had a little shop over by Dirt-Trix in PHX. Ask him about the car jack that fell on him one time , (we all quit trusting them after that). Didnt want to get out of it but had to move back to AZ for family reasons. Economy was in the toilet and violence was bad in Baja. Lots of great memories from Horsepower Ranch and the pre-race parties, (Wide Open Baja's base south of Ensenada). Lots of seat time in the buggies getting Monster Energy athletes set up. Ken Block, Jeremy McGrath, Malcom Smith, Kyle Loza, Tara Dakides, ect. Just driving around Baja in my chase truck was fun, you get treated like a rock star ! Truly epic times ! But WOB was sold and it was moved to Lake Tahoe, Horsepower Ranch was closed. Sad. My buddy still races his 1600 car we ran in the More series. He actually just took points champion. Desert racing is pretty much non-existent in AZ so now I get my 'seat time' on my Gambler.

@bajawfo: Geez, your comment never popped up on my dashboard! Well, here's my 2 month late reply That's a shame, sorry to hear about it.. A shame too about the lack of desert racing in AZ. Lots of race shops and prerunning at least! Big Grin What series was it that raced all around AZ, I specifically remember a race out towards Wickenburg? Congrats to your buddy! Gambler? I know of a Scrambler.. Never heard of a Gambler (well, outside of Vegas that is! lol ). Will definitely ask Rick about the car jack too!

@bajawfo: *SCOTT Gamber. Duh!!! Redface lol

@therealtylerdurden: Whiplash ran a series for years, Then Golden Rule kinda took over but pretty flat now. The Wickenburg was called the Vulture Mine 250...? We ran a '73 Monte Carlo in that one year ! It was pretty tough car, full cage , full length skid plates and BFG Projects. Some big 300lb guy built it and asked us to drive in the race. We broke a oil sending line and were stranded for hours. No food with us and way to early for sweep trucks to save us. Starving, I ate some "Space Sticks" I had found in the trunk. They had to have been 10 yo at that time. I miss racing. Gambler comment cracked me up !!!

Ahhhh, Whiplash! That's it. Monte Carlo on Projects?? YES!!! Haha that had to have been a fun car. Ewwww, 10 year old space food. When times are tough, tough food gets eaten! Big Grin I miss it too, brotha.

I only can pay for your gas lol
  • + 2
Lol! Fair warning, at race speed, it will only get about 2 mpg (1 km/l)! Can't wait to get myself one!!
  • + 2
@therealtylerdurden: ooooooh woah big engine Eek

Yea you should getting one tup
  • + 2
@STARWARS: oh yeah, they run upwards of 572 cubic inches (9.5 liters), have 39-40" tires, and top out at 140 mph. So they burn through the fuel! Big Grin Absolutely! They start at $300-500,000 new, and top out upwards of a million. Can often find used for $100,000 though! That's the beauty of old race cars. You can get a 20 year old F1 car for under $60,000 even.

@therealtylerdurden: OMG i never knew about this Eek thanks for telling me

 Superb!

This is so 'Murican that it should hurt. But instead, it feels great! Razz

"Estimated to be 180 feet in the air"
Maybe 8 vertical feet haha
  • + 1
Trust me, if you've ever experienced air at 90 offroad... You wouldn't be critiquing 'only' being 8' off the ground. My old Ranger saw air under all four tires at 90 a few times, aired out 40-60', maybe 4' off the ground. It wasn't very high, and the road was NO where near as rough as the track in this video. But at that speed, room for error is nil.

And it makes you feel like a God! Razz
  • + 1
@therealtylerdurden: I wasn't saying 8 feet in a truck wouldn't be amazing.I was critiquing him saying he was 180 feet in the air. I am pretty sure he meant the truck travelled 180 horizontal feet in the air, it just sounded really funny.
  • + 1
 Oh. My apologies! Smile
  • + 2
Just watched it again, and I see what ya mean Razz

The driver jumps over the roadway!!!! Awesome!!!

imagine your bike on the back of THAT car Eek

 It's been done! Smile

@therealtylerdurden: i can imagine that Smile i just dream about having that opportunity Big Grin

@RedBurn: Hey man, I found the video I was looking for. I think there is another one in an older MTB full length film, probably my from the early 2000s, that has Brian Lopes if I recall correctly.

 Where do I buy one??
  • + 2
I doubt you're serious, but if you are- you tell me when you have her!!! Big Grin There are a fair few shops that build and sell these bastards, mostly on the west coast and southwest, but also few shops thoughout the States IIRC.

Turn key prices start at about 300k depending on the specs and builder, and go up to about a million, maybe more.

There are street legal 'luxury' prerunners built by Stewarts Raceworks for about $650k. Basically this + windows + AC + you can license, register and drive it on the street. Being street legal is only a possibility in a few states. Good ol AZ is a good example. Smile

Race-dezert.com has classifieds for offroad race vehicles and prerunners, ranging from cheap and not much suspension travel or hp to legit trophy trucks and luxury prerunners, often starting at about 100-150k, used obviously.

There ya go. Let the spending of a houses' worth of money begin! Razz
  • + 1
I guesa I should say I assume you're not serious, I don't doubt the possibility. Wink
  • + 1
@therealtylerdurden: how do they cost so much?? holy crap...
  • + 1
A custom tube frame made of hundreds of feet of DOM or 4130 Chromoly tubing and probably over 100 square feet of high grade steel plate, all tig welded, which means highly skilled welders are needed (high labor costs) and tig welding is much, much slower than mig welding.

800+hp naturally aspirated big block, some up to 590+ cubic inches. Expensive race quality, durable and reliable aluminum heads and block, lottsa torque, and able to deal with the punishment you saw in the video above for 1,000+ miles.

Shocks cost $2-3,000 APIECE (and it has 8 Wink ), the rear axle costs about $7-8,000. It's like they say in any form of fast motorsports. Ya gotta pay to play. You can cheap out on some stuff, sure. But that sacrifices reliability, and in a race vehicle, that's unacceptable.

Did I mention they top out at about 140 mph? And they have 40" tires (over $1,000 apiece, and they carry two spares)? That they have 2-3 FEET of wheel travel? They run 6 piston disc brakes? Their lights are $400-500 each and they have 6-8+? (not shown in the vid. They're 6-9 inches in diameter Smile )

It's a massive undertaking to make a truck like that that's not gonna fall apart on its first jump.
  • + 1
@therealtylerdurden: holy crap, now I just need to become a millionaire
  • + 1
Yes you do! As do I. Whoever becomes one first owes the other a ride.in their TT. Smile
  • + 1
Totally forgot to mention that they have 100 gallon fuel cells lol. There's another $2,500-4k. And about 6k in rod ends, uniballs, and heim joints. Like I said- massive undertaking! Razz
