i used to have 8 speed and it sucked for dirt jumping but then its way better for down hill and freeride, but for DJ do single speed

i use gears for everything( except park). I can adjust my own gears properly so they work perfect. its like having 8 single speed gears.

if you'r smart you coudl get the hadley single speed i\hub and use a 8-speed casssete thats been hacked downto five gears and a sucide lever.. so you get the best of both worlds..

Decent chain device, SRAM rear mech would be better.

But I'd run 9 speed if I were you. There are no advantages to 8!
