yes you can get some 2nd hand dirt jumper 3's for about £50-£60.

Make sure

Steerer is the right length or longer.
Seals are not leaking
No cracks or dents in the steerer
The crown is solid
The lowers are uncracked/undamaged
last of all; that they ride properly!

Basically its probablly best to buy brand new?
Just incase i order a set and then find out it has one of the things wrong with it like you said only to have to try and send it back etc.

To be honest, with little knowledge and something like forks with moving parts, yes.

The DJ series does not have V-brake tabs... so you'll have to buy a new front(disk) brake.
Why not go to your LBS and ask for an older fork (circa 2002-2005 Marzocchi, for instance) Not awesome forks, but usually pretty damn cheap, and usually have V-tabs on them. Just watch for cracked/cracking crowns and stanchions! (Happens a fair bit with the old 'zocchi's!)
BEst of luck!

I think the best thing you can do is tell us your budget? And if you would be willing to scrap the front brake.

Well £80 at the moment so would have to do things bit at a time.
Would get rid of the front brake so long as i have a good back brake, at the moment its just v-brakes.
thanks

1. Are your hubs disc capable?
2. Has your frame got IS disc mounts?

Can't tell too well from the pic, but it looks like the hubs are NOT disc compatible, but teh frame is (judging by the stay-brace on the N/D side).
For 80 quid, he's not gonna get a new wheelset.
An old (but good quality) v-ready fork is the best option.
