Question....I have a Spec demo 9 that originally came with 6 way swinger. I swapped it out for a dhx 5.0. The only problem is that the dhx will only fit one way on the lower bottom bracket setting. So my question is, other than the 6 way swinger, what other rear shocks will fit but in the higher bottom bracket setting? Lower setting is a pain because I keep hitting pedals on rocks and ridin' low. It feels awkward. Will the Roco, 4 way, Cane creek work(on the higher BB setting? To clarify, when I say setting I mean the hole that the Resevoir side mounts to. Any help would be much appreciated.

What is keeping the shock from fitting...Don't you have to flip/roll the shock one way other other for each setting?

Mate so are you if you meant wkdrider69. He's from New Zealand. Even if you didn't, I don't see a single British user in this thread. Razz

I can tell you that a 4 way will fit considering its what came stock on my 2004 Demo 9 Pro. I think you will need certain hardware for the Roco but its interchangeable with the Fox mounting hardware.

As for the DHX, I've seen a Demo with one. Are you following the instructions near the shock mount? One one of the options you need to flip the shock so the resivoir is higher and vice versa for the other option. Personally, I don't think you should bother switching it. The increased clearance is meant for a 24' rear wheel. If you have a 26', your handling is going to feel a little strange

So I did research and spent countless time in the garage trying to make it work. If you are a Demo onwner listen up. A dhx and a roco will only work in the lower shock mount position. Since Spec designs bikes around parts and there was no DHX or Roco available in 04 and since the demos have never changed, those shocks will ONLY work in the lower BB position. The roco might work if you dremel a little bit of the seat tube down where it catches but I just not willing to compromise my frame and/or warranty. If anyone finds this ifo wrong, please let me know.

For all you 14 year olds like the Kiwi, I'd like to say thanks for taking 20 seconds of my life I can't get back. If you are going to waste people's time, don't bother posting. Put down your playstations and porno mags down for just one second and learn how to work on your bikes before offering up advice!!

Only the swingers will fit in both Positions(shock mounts or bb heights, just to be clear. The dhx and roco will fit but only in lower mount or lower bb height. Hope that helps.

I'm not a Demo owner however I figured I'd toss this in anyways.

Alot of people when thinking about upgrading their suspension often dont think of Avalanche.

I'm not 100% sure it will work with the Demo but I figure for those of you who are considering a new shock it would be worth looking into.

The Avalanche DHS, features a remote resovoir, available in just about any size to fit most big bikes.

The Avalanche Montie, mono tube shock (no resovoir).

The Avalanche Chubbie, features a shorter resovoir than most other shocks on the market, available in just about any size to fit most big bikes.

Yup, tried tested and true, Avalanche suspension is great quality, simplistic, loads of available options, and service with a smile while your at it!

Like I said I havent checked into it but with the remote resovoir feature of the DHS there should be no reason that it wont work 100% on the Demo 9.
I cant forsee any fitment issues at all with it unless the DHS does not come in the correct i2i and/or stroke but theres alot of size choices available so it's hard to imagine that there would be a problem.

The Avalanche DHS (and their other shocks) are certainly worth taking a look at especially if you have a bike with possible shock fitment issues.
