Yeah Im also building my first bike. Im broke and I need to buy a bash guard and chainring but thats like $200 together so Im probably not going to be hitting the trails for at least a month

thats why you don't buy the first crap you see! My whole tazer was built using parts I found on pinkbike.. and it costed me less than 1000$

I basically built my whole bike with pinkbike parts too. This is one of the only parts I bought new. Plus I needed a bb guide and there were no good ones on pinkbike when I bought my chain guide
What are some grippy pedals i can get online with a budget if 40 dollars
NONE! I'm sorry but appart from plastic pedals.. 40$ doesn't get you much online..

I bought some cheap but very grippy pedals from performance bike for $40 on sale. I dont think you can buy them online but they may have some at a local store if there is one close to you
