Whats the difference of having to align a FSA perfectly and having to align a K9 or Works perfectly?
i dont know how the works ones function, but i think it's because they are specific to one angle whereas the others are used for multiple angles.

So the problem arises from the number of moving parts rather than the alignment?

PS

Both K9 and Works are just 2 offset and angled cups.

it comes from having more parts and them being in misalignment.

When you compare K9/Works to CC, you are right, but only partly, coz, they work in a different way.

But, when you compare CC to FSA you are completly wrong, as they, actually, have more moving parts then FSA

Ok, well looks like i will go for a works, i really dont nees to adjustment of the CC. What angles are people running? Im thinking of dropping mine down by 1.5 but im not sure what it is at the mo. Will test tonight

Slacker = better!

Except on tight or slow stuff. It sucks for tight stuff, my bike steers like a 60ft boat in tight corners Frown ... It really depends on the type of riding/tracks you enjoy on a regular basis.

Stock head angle is 65.5. From there it just depends on how slack you want it. Just remember that the slacker the head angle the more stable at speed and on steep terrain but the slower the bike turns and the less nimble it feels in tight trails. It's all about finding the right compromise for your riding.

i see how they both work now, the FSA uses the bearings as a gymbal. In the cup. The cane creek has a Separate gymbal that sits in the cup and the bearing sits in the gymbal. That makes sense now.

The compression ring is the split piece that goes on top of the upper bearing. Cane creek had a patent on it for years and so some other brands like chris king used a design without this resulted in an infamous creaking. The compression ring Isn't a reason why the angleset is better, it was just an example of patented technology that is difficult to circumvent.

I thought star-nut was patented, so every1, who wanted to use it, had to pay. So, as far as I know wast majority of headset manufacturers did it. Except, CK (as you say), who tried to different solution with poor results.
It seems CC's patent has expired 2 year ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headset_%28bicycle_part%29
Anyhow, both CC and FSA are prone to click. Maybe CC a bit less, maybe because of better quality, I would be sure. But, there are both "universal", while Works works Wink with certain HT lengths.

O+

I would just buy a cane creek but theyre expensive and i doubt i will ever use the adjustability. Anybody had any experience with K9 or Works offset headsets?

I've had a works headset on mine since I got it almost two years ago and haven't had a single issue.

To confirm what the others have said:

1. Definitely a large
2. Most people running dual crowns (such as 888s, Boxxers or 40s) run a standard 1 1/8 steerer tube with a "reducer" headset that reduces the size of the bottom cup from 1 1/2 down to 1 1/8

Finally, if your buying 2nd hand/used, check the weld between seat tube and top tube for cracks on the underside before buying. Remember the warranty only applies to the first owner.
