What's wrong with your freinds code that he doesn't like?

Could you elaborate why?
First they are too heavy and I don`t like how they look, but there everybody has another opinion. Furthermore they have not so much power. Then there were the typical Avid problems: Pistons don´t go back and too much air in oil. The Elixir R was by way of exception well bleeded when I bought them. Then I rode them for about 3 months and then there was so much air in the oil that I wasn´t able to brake. I bleeded it and after 2 months again no pressure point. So I sold them. Then the Code R and again too fast too much air, but not as fast as the Elixir. There I had the problem that the pistons at the rear don´t went back and I owened it only for a few weeks. I sent the brake back to Avid and after 3(!) months they said I used the brake wrong and they can´t repair it warranted and I have to pay it. I also owened 2 Juicy 7s and there was the same with the pistons. Then I bought a Marta and it was the best purchase I did. Then they stole my bike with the Martas and now I have Hope Race X2 and they are the same porn as the Martas. So if I were you, I would invest more money in a Hope or Magura.

Ok so from what i'm hearing avid has a very bad customer service and bad quality in general..so i have found some other options:
How is the hayes stroker ace?Magura Louise BAT? Formula RX?
Any All-mountain brake ideas that could work for Dh? like could some XT or XTR's work? My budget is around 350 bucks for a full set.

Saying something is a piece of garbage without giving a reason makes you sound ignorant.

yes maybe it is so, but it`s a piece o garbage what you said, because I already said why Avid is shit in my opinion.

Magura makes perfect brakes! The Louise is a very good brake with more then enough power, but the Marta is better, as it is lighter and in my opinion it looks better. With 180mm rotors a good choice even for Dh. I rode them with 160mm for 4x and bikeparc tracks and I have to say that I miss them. A friend uses them for Dh with 180mm rotors and he says it is the best brake he ever rode. Much better then Saint or Codes.

Overpowerful h doesnt like how he just barely squeezes the lever and the brake skids out when eilixirs can slow you down without skidding or you can just pull the lever all the way to skid
Eilixers are the way to go and they are very easy to bleed and change pads

So i think i will go for the stroker ace. everywhere i here great stuff about them and at 120 bucks a peice there is no contender in that price range. Anybody have a set?
And BTW what are the differences mettallic and semi metallic pads have on performance?

I had a pair of Stroker Aces before I got a pair of Elixirs. And if I had the choice to take Aces again, I would keep the Elixirs.

I had problems with the Aces, like loose pads (the way they are attached to the calipers is just ridiculous), pistons not coming out (easily fixed by lubing the pistons with DOT5.1), and some leaking on 1 caliper. But as I stated in another post ("Brakes!" was the name I think), the Hayes people were fast to answer my questions. After a few emails exchanged, pictures sent from my side, they sent me spares for the master cylinder (I had a lever that wasn't going back as well as the other one, a known problem for some Aces) and a pair of pads (because of the loose pad, they were unevenly used).

So good point for the company, fast response.

They had a nice power, good modulation (maybe too much for me, I prefer on-off), but some issues that stained the view I had of them. And then I had the chance to buy a brand new pair of Elixir CR for almost nothing, so I sold them.

Elixirs have more power, haven't had any problem yet or leaking or anything. I might actually even buy one of the new elixir when they are out.

Well yeah I'm guessing your strokers were about 09' or similar and i've read that was a known problem on early models that was fixed. I'm talking about the 11' model. Also I have read a LOT of bad reviews on avid including elixirs so i'm in some dillema here...anyone with 11' stroker aces?

All are almost the same price and i don't care much for weight just performance.

I have Elixir R brakes on my AM bike and I hate them. The pads don't have much clearance from the rotor so they're need to be adjusted properly to prevent rotor rub. They're also 2 piston calipers which means they have significantly less stopping power than a 4 piston model like the Code.

thats like saying you will get more power for undoing a bolt with say 200mm ratchet if you had a bigger hand

number of pistons have nothing to do with stopping power. more leverage is the way for more power, pad chemistry, braking surface area and number of pistons have little to do with power and more to do with heat management and feel

Yep, 09 Aces, the silver and red ones. Cool if they fixed it, and hope they changed something about the pad retention stuff too ... ^^

And yea, about the Elixir, there are so many on the tracks that you will always find a lot of people bitching about them. I don't have any problem with them, that's all I can say.

Okay so final decision-
Formula Oro or Hayes stroker ace?
I can get both for the same prrice, for DH of course.

People seem to have a massive problem bleeding avids, I have to say it's very easy. Learn to do it properly and they'll be awesome. I have a combination of Elixir Rs and elixir CRs and they have survived nearly 3 years of abuse including 2 weeks in France/Switzerland and the last 2 months in Whistler. Couldn't ask for more from them.

Because of their stopping power, I find that I rarely have to use more than one finger to modulate my brakes on descents.
.

Something is wrong if you need to use two finger braking surely? I've never even considered using two fingers for the last 5 years plus...

Yeah i was thinking the same thing. Even my XC breaks dont need more then one finger and the arent all that powerful
