Not positive, but wven if they are not, folks have a very negative attitude about it in the Asheville area. Bent Creek, Dupont, etc. You can call The Hub in Asheville to find out more. I don't have one, but have thought about it, just for mtn rides, but have been told they are not very well received. Most other places around here are just fine with them. I am in the foothills.

Hey Ashevillians, I’m planning a two or three day trip to Pisgah this week. Looking to primitive camp near the trails. Anybody have a good spot to park, or know of a nice place to camp away from people and near water? I can carry my camping equipment on my bike for a mile or two if necessary.

There are tons of spots off 475b and Avery’s creek rd. It’s all first come so earlier the better.

Ok now that I’ve had time to look at the maps, I don’t feel any better informed. What’s 475b. Avery creek rd has a bunch of houses. Can you give any more info? I live 3 hours away, so can’t really scout it beforehand.

475b is the dirt road that is across from the fish hatchery.

Avery’s creek rd comes right off of 276 about .5 mile past the rangers station.

There are no houses on either. Both are forest service roads. There are plenty of car camping sites off of both. 475b has Daniel ridge off it. Avery’s creek rd has black mt, Avery, Bennett gap, etc off it.

Ok, awesome, thanks so much. Google maps brought up a different road called Avery creek closer to Asheville, and nothing at all when I searched 475b. Very helpful, appreciate it!

No worries. Pisgah that most people talk about when they’re talking about biking is about 30 miles sw of Asheville near brevard.

Hello North Carolina riders, just wondering if I can pick your brains about some riding in the Asheville area? We’re planning on coming out around the 17 of this month. Is this going to be a good time to ride? There is a total of four of us coming out, and the ladies would like to do some gravel riding while us fellas hit up some mountain biking. Is there much gravel riding? Any must do mountain bike trails? Is there a bike shop that you would recommend to use if we need? Is there a guiding service if we wanted to hire someone to show us around? We do use trail forks, but you know how that works, ride for 500 feet, stop, look at the app, ride another 500 feet, stop again…thanks in advance for any help any of the locals can give us, or just anyone who has some experience in the area!

N mills area is fantastic for both gravel and mtb. Bent creek area is great for both, mtb is a little remedial here unless you’re riding unofficial stuff. Take a day and goto Kanuga, it’s a mtb country club and well worth the money. It’s very close to DuPont forest which has some great gravel biking as well as plenty of mtb. You can never go wrong with pisgah, for either gravel or mtb. For specific trails PM me and I can lay out some stuff

If your ever in Montreat/Black Mountain for some reason, check out Rainbow Road. Its pretty chunky and its a quick lap.
If you want an even better decent, climb up the toll road until it starts going downhill then turn around. You will connect with rainbow road and get some gnarly rock gardens.
