Mallets are about as close as you can get to flats and still be clipped in. If thats what you want then they're a good choice.

They're one of the only good CB products.

I have just ordered a pair of Shimano XT's and FiveTen Hellcats for DH, just cant bear anymore those flat craps, (despite they are grippy, funns and vans classics), But i will keep the flats there for muddy trails

I've used times for years, they have the widest engagement area so are easy to get in to & clear out well, they also have the spring at the front which I think makes a huge difference to ease of entry. There's plenty of float & the angle needed to get out can be adjusted by swapping which foot the cleats on. 2 cents Salute

Not to mention that Times have way harder tension in the mechanism, sounds like a gun going off when both pedals and cleats are new and you unclipp. Will never go back to mallets
