well i know enough about them to tell you they aren't very cheap, but then again it depends on what your idea of cheap is.

That Chapparall is cheap for a reason.

It's a solid bike, but it's heavy and the suspension is pretty crude. Even in 2007 it was an outdated design. My buddy has one and it takes a beating like a champ, but it's a tank to pedal around.

The Rune on the other hand is a really nice bike, but unless you find a super sweet deal on aused one, I can't see it fitting in your price range. I was going to get one before I got my Reign X, but it was going to cost $1000 more for a similar part spec.

Are Haro bikes any good? A good friend of mine has a 2008 Haro extreme x7/x6 comp and he seems to like it alot. It only has 6" of travel in the rear with a 5.5 inch travel fork in the front. But it can take a beating, its also a pretty cgeap bike.

reign x is pretty cheap, good option. im buying a transition preston FR, its 5" of travel but its beast and its aparently one of the best for true AM, you can huck gnar freeride and dh on it but also do some nice xc or am shit. go to transitions website and check it out, just do it even if you dont think you want it

Norco Fluid LT- you can get the LT3 for about 2200 CAD. Fork blows, but apart from that it's pretty solid.

Check out a used Cannondale Gemini. You can get them for $1500 complete. They are light and tough. You can build them DH/FR/AM depending on the components. It also has a 1.5 head tube. If it has a manitou fork I would make sure it's a TPC+ model. That is the reliable dampening system. There are a good selection in the buy/sell. I got mine in 03 and it still rips.
