I have been riding singlespeed for about 3 years and I love it. I mostly ride street and dirt jumps, but also use it for commuting and getting around. Single speed is very simple, requiring very little maintenance, and it makes you a stronger rider. It doesn't require the constant maintenance that and trouble that are yielded from the use of derailers and what not. I say give it a try and see for yourself.
