It is true though. There was a radio interview with call ins on my local station not long back. Motorists saying how they like cutting up cyclists for fun. One bloke said he liked to drive towards roadies in groups and make them have to swerve.

And the main thing mentioned was "road tax." Motorists are wankers.

was just stuck behind this guy in a Jag for like over a mile, the guy was just driving right in the cycle lane the hole time, and i had the trailer so i couldn't really get around, humphhh

I think I'm bringing my post to the right place in this thread right here (mods, please delete or tell me where to take it otherwise):

Share bikes and their integration with other commuting / transportation systems

Where I'm at, the city buses have a two place bike rack on the front of the bus. First come, first served (see a problem?). I've actually used it as a mtb shuttle when college bus routes are in session (they don't go to the trailhead May through August). The bus routes I've used to actually commute left me with impressions that make me want to use any other mode of transport, but I won't just give up like that.

We don't have a bike share here, but we do have many potential consumers for such. Since the public bus system here is named "Pioneer Valley Transportation Authority", I believe that they would be the ones to approach for integrating a bike share program with existing public transport infrastructure, as a cost-effective means of addressing deficiencies and inefficiencies in the existing bus system.

It seems to me that if people want to use a bus for commuting, and the bus already includes limited bike racks, that the way forward is obvious. Add to that the ongoing conversion of unused former railways into bike paths, rising fuel and highway maintenance costs, deferred expansion for addressing traffic congestion, what better solution is there than a bike share?

In case I need to explain further the deficiencies of what is in place now, consider the commuter who wishes to take advantage of the bus and its bike rack. For this hypothetical scenario, the commuter has their own personal automobile that they plan on driving part way, parking in the commuter lot at the end of the bus line, and taking the bus, with their bicycle, to where they disembark from the bus, and then bike the rest of the way to their destination. The first time they bother to take their bike from the car to the bus stop, and then they don't have a place for their bike on the bus, is the last time that they will attempt to commute this way. They would probably just ride the bike the whole way, or drive. Then we see buses that operate empty of commuters, but still require public funds.

PVTA has offered smart phone apps for commuters in the past, for purposes of tracking buses. It might do well to include an app that informs the user of bike rack availability, but that only informs one of the problem without a fix.

These limiting factors can be addressed by integrating bike share stations with bus stops. There should also be a place for bicyclists to lock up their own bikes, in case there is no bike rack available on the bus. When the bicyclist disembarks from the bus, there is a share bike waiting for them. It's not perfect, but it's a start.

Thoughts? I want to approach my local public transport authority with a request for bike share integration. Its scope is beyond my individual needs and aspirations, though, so I need to discuss it further.

So I am trying to get some feed back from as many people as possible on a stem shifter adapter for threadless headsets. Its is going to be targeted at the touring, bike packing and commuter market. I have a few pictures of a proto of a 1x on my profile. Cheers
