Someone asked for this somewhere, can't find the post now... But I've added fields to track the hours and attendance on "Trail Reports" that are marked as having "Trail Work" done.
Wicked! I was all set to ask for this and I see it's completed already. This will be a nice tool for clubs to leverage when asking for funding/support. Is there a way to query summaries for this data via the statistics page?
Great website. One idea that I think would be good is to have a section called "Locals Loops and Rides". Is this what you are calling "routes"?
Not sure if they are the same but my thinking is one thing when you come to an area you are not familiar with is how to string trails together for a ride. Would have to some basic info in addition to the trails to ride such as distance and/or time to ride, fitness level time is based on or a time range (Adventure Maps does a great job of this, both distance and time estimates), a short description of why it's a good ride (again, for a good template, see an Adventure Map).
Yes that is one of the intended uses of "Routes", which is coming.
But there is an even more useful feature I use when going to a new area, the ridelogs. When vewing a specific trail there is a "Ridelogs' tab, this will show any users ridelogs that rode this trail, so you can see how other users are linking up this trail. You can also view all the ridelogs for a region. Example: http://www.trailforks.com/trails/drops-a-lot/ridelogs/ (i see there is a doubling up bug)
Has anyone mentioned that 'Bitches Brew' on the Fromme map, is in fact the hiking trail Per Gynt (or part of it)? BB starts in the same place but swings down in a more southerly direction. PG exits where the Cascades Trail (another hiking trail and you'll probably die if you try and ride it....) meets Dreamweaver. A couple of lads riding down DW and asking for directions today reminded me to mention this as they said that they'd just ridden down BB when they couldn't have been
I don't have the GPS for the actual trail then, and seems no one has ridden it on the heatmap, all the heatmap data follows the current track. If you have the gps, feel free to edit the trail. I can see on an old map it goes maybe 50% way down the current track, then cuts left.
I don't GPS or 'Strava' anything but the links below show clearly that PG goes in one direction, and BB goes in another. The one on Trailforks is labelled BB but is in reality PG (they start at the same point).
I can't edit anything but I guess someone can. As a MTBer first and hiker second it doesn't bother me but with the amount 'stickmen' and sign thieves on Fromme at the moment it makes sense not to have looking like we are stealing hikers trails
I'll edit it to my best guess, until I get a better gps track. But anyone logged into the site can submit edits to trails, they need to be approved before then go live though.
Have you looked at the IMBA mtbproject system. After using both theirs is a damn side easier to add new trails to and the photo's if you have used a phone with the GPS self locate without having to upload and then link to the trail.
Found it kinda little ridiculous that I added our club that does much of the trail maint and advocacy as a new club, but then it's not available as an option when I add trails that will have to be vetted anyway. So one will have to go back and add the club link to the trails. Same thing with the photo's can't add to new trails in the vetting process, so one will have to come back to it, neither is a very efficient use of tiem for all parties
You don't have to go back and edit the trails adding the association, its added automatically based on the location. If for some reason its not showing up, you edit the "region" and manually specify the association and this will apply to all trails in the region.
It is true you can't add photos to a trail until its been approved, but if you represent a trail association, we can set you up with regional admin so you can add trails without needing mod or community approval, so you can add photos immediately after adding a trail (a handy link even appears after submitting the trail). It is something we could look at streamlining, having photos kinda sit in limbo until a trail is approved.
We do scan each trail when its approved for any photos that might match from Pinkbike's massive photo database, a lot of photos are added automatically this way.
We collect A LOT more meta data about each trail, so this can take more time to fillout, but its optional. Others can fill in more detail over time, given the crowdsourced wiki-like nature. But having this meta data helps, we have many ways to filter trail lists, something others don't do.
There is actually a very simple test app for android that allows you to take photos and attach to a trail from your phone. http://www.trailforks.com/apps/photos/ We are working on the official Trailforks app over the winter, and it will have a photo function built-in. I'm not sure about your comment though, mtbp app doesn't have a photo function.
Someone asked earlier to get PB dashboard notice when something they submitted gets confirmed. Well this has been added, you will get PB dash notices when your new content is confirmed, or revisions confirmed for trails, regions, skillparks, & poi.
I'd like to see a system for filtering different ride logs on my feed, or even the ability to just "ignore ride logs" in general and the ability to ignore certain peoples ride logs. For example I don't want to see any ride logs of street riding, like peoples rides to and from work that they upload every day. Also the ability to filter ride logs by different bikes so you can just filter out road bikes completely or other types of bikes.
The problem is Strava doesn't differentiate between a road ride and mountain bike ride. So when users ridelogs are imported I can't really know if they are a mtn bike ride or not. If a Trailforks user sets up their Strava Gear on TF then they can choose to NOT filter rides that use a certain bike, say a road bike. People are also too lazy to mark rides as "commute" on Stava, but if they do, Trailforks doesn't import those.
But most users don't do this.
On the homepage activity feed you can click the gear icon in the top and customize what appears in the feed. So you can filter out ridelogs.
But are you talking about the public Trailforks activity feed, or your personal Pinkbike dashboard feed?
