Will a 2.125 tube work on a 2.2 tire?

Hey, I have a 2.2 tire, I got a flat, and the only tube I have is one from a bike that I don't ride anymore, and that tube is 1.9-2.125. I would get a proper 2.2 plus tube but I really can't get out to a bike shop for this week, and I want to ride. Will the max. 2.125 tube be fine for my 2.2 tire? I'm thinking so, but I would like to make sure, opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The answer is yes but only at higher pressures. If you're light and run say 30 psi normally you might have issues when you corner.

Here's an example of a 1.9 tube in a 2.1 tire at low psi. By far the funniest thing I've seen while riding this year.

I run 2.125 tubes in 2.5 tires.....its the weight weenie in me. They work just fine and I run less than 30 psi just fine.

they work in all tire sizes... i used to run them in a 2.8 michelin tire... they work fine...

that tire blowoff looks more like a tire bead fail than a tube fail. most tubes will work with most tires of the same diameter. a really big dh tube will be hard to stuff in a 1.5" slick tire, and the 1.5" may be slightly more prone to flatting in a big fat DH tire, but if everything mounts up fine, you probably won't notice a difference.

That dude put another 50+ hours off road on those tire problem free, in fact he only replaced them last week, that photo was from april so probably more like 100. The only reason they came off was too small a tube for the tire. Later on that same ride he ate it on a corner cause the tire folded just enough that he washed out. Maybe certain brands are worse than others???

I think he had spesh 2.1 tube in a Nevagal 2.3 tire but I'll ask him and get back to you.

Its not from the tube, they have an almost magical ability to.....stretch. Running a smaller tube just means that you're stretching the tube a little thinner, which will make it prone to pinch flats if you run too low a pressure.

Same here.

And the guy above makes an amazing point. Tubes streach, it dosn`t matter if it`s a little smaller.

really, it had NOTHING to do with the size of the tube. probably popped the bead slightly on the tire, and the tube shot out which de-beaded the rest of the tire. go ahead and ask ibis, he'll tell you the same thing!

29er riders (like myself) often use 26er tubes, in fact i've been running a 26x2.125 tube in a 29x2.4 tire for hundreds of hours with no problems...tubes stretch!

also keep in mind tire and tube sizes are not always marked correctly.

I have seen mismatched packaging and sidewall of both tubes and tires.
