My paycheck cleared this week so I pulled the trigger and ordered the parts for my new tower to replace my core2quad/gtx460 tower.

Core i5 2500k
MSI P67A-GD65 mobo
4 gigs of Mushkin Blackline Ram
Kingwin LZ750 PSU (yes it's overkill, but it was only 10 bucks more than the 550w version)
Asus EAH 6870
Intel X-25M 80gig ssd
WD 1tb drive

I'll be carrying over my lancool k62 case, and dvd and blu ray drives from my current pc, as well as 500, 320, and 160 gig drives. I can't decide if I want to keep the 460 and just use it for dedicated physx or not.

Oh, and I orderd one of those Saitek R.A.T. 5 mice. It looks nifty and actually has some usable functions. If it sucks, back to my logitech mouse.

EDIT:

Also, does anyone here have any of the newer LED backlit monitors? Are they worth the upgrade?

@fap

@thread creator

Maybe change name to computer discussion.

@everybody

1: does LCD tv work well with a desktop pc as a monitor, if so hats biggest?
2: what is the point of 3 monitors...? Coz I seen a comp with 24gb ram, 3 monitors, Bluetooth and alsorts for £1600,

an lcd tv should work. size shouldnt matter but you wont be able to run a resolution bigger than 1920x1080

3 monitors = greater multitaskablility

24 gigs of ram is 20 gigs too much unless you're doing some serious rendering, or other very very taxing LONG process. I lol my head off at people getting 12 gigs and such. It literally is a waste of money because at least 50% of that will just sit there and do nothing.

Hence why I said that.

For 90% of the population it only serves as penis bragging rights on the internet.

Hahaha, I use all my 12GB regularly in After Effects because when it generates a realtime preview it saves the info to the RAM (as much as you have). So with 12GB I can fortunately get some really long realtime preview times, but if it's a complex composition it'll fill up for sure.

Same thing with Premiere of course but with the CPU. 100% on all 8 threads for the entire render time.
