i have recently found out (thanks pipes10) that demo 7's can be made to have 7.7" of travel instead of the ussual 7. all you have to do is remove a plastic clip, called a travel limiter, that is under the rubber bumper. Here is a pic
the arrow is pointing to the clip

who needs a demo 8 when a demo 7 can be both bikes in onelol

I was wondering if anyone else has already tried this?
and if there are any negative effects?

Thanks
Josh

doesn't the rubber bung stop your shock body hitting the preload nut?
and also the spring coils from hitting each other?

-edit-
my bad, you remove the plastic clip not the whole bung Big Grin

if your worried by negative affects take your spring of and put the shock back in the frame then you can see of its gonna come into contact with anything when you compress the suspension.

It seems to me that that clip was most likely put there by fox, and is part of the shock, not a limiter. There is no reason specialized would need to put a travel restriction on a bike when they could have moved the mount quite easily for less travel.

I have a 2008 demo 7 1. An amazing bike! The owners manual talks about the "travel chip" that can be removed to increase the travel from 7.3 to 7.7 inches. I was able to talk to Specialized and ask them about the reason for the chip. The answer was interesting...Marketing. There needed to be enough of a difference between the Demo 7 and 8.
