I don't even know what is the AM41 from Shimano, but the 510s are just THE reference in mtb shoes. Super grip, stiff sole (I hate Vans-like shoes with super soft sole, when you feel all the pedal pins in your foot), and the 510 Hellcat are office-approved
I was due to replace my five tens. I was thinking about a cheaper shoe and looking at the AM41. I was reading the reviews. One thing and the deciding factor was the sole of the AM41 is pretty thin. So I just had to face it and spend the money on five tens, they are the best. I was wearing my old pair for about three years.
5-10s dude , not only do they grip more but the soles are fairly stiff so they are great for pedalling and you don't get that horrible foot bending over pedal feeling when landing hard
