Troy Lee Designs D3 sizing help

I'm treating myself to a new D3 but I'm having some trouble figuring out which size I need.

Measured just above the ears my head is 57,8-58cm. (I have measured a bunch of times now) but translating that into a helmet size turned out to be more complicated than expected.

For some reason there's a 1cm. gap in TLD's size chart https://www.troyleedesigns.com/product.php?cat=33&id=19584
M = 56-57cm
L = 58-59
Unfortunately I'm falling right into that gap and don't know whether to get the M or L. Normally I need a size L in helmets, caps and so on but I would hate to spend so much cash on a helmet just to find out that it's too big.

Any advice?

If you usually wear L helmets, then it's definitely a L for TLD (might even be XL...). They size quite small from what I've heard here and there. Since you're in the lower end of the L sizing, then L should be fine.

I used to have a Kenny helmet in XL that fitted well. Then tried Fox and 661 in XL, but just couldn't get my head in ... Bought a TLD D3 in XXL (had a very good price on one, decided I'd go for it, I could have sold it the same price if not more expensive) and it was a tight fit...

A friend who owns 2 TLD (D2 and D3) told me that he's seen so many people selling D2/D3s because they got the wrong size ... So better check twice considering the price Smile

Best is yet to find a dealer/website that accepts returns (in case it's the wrong size)

I have actually seen the exact opposite mentioned on some sites (that TLD's are a little larger than average)
My brother has the SE3 in size M and says that it is larger than his other M helmets (Airoh and Thor), but I am not sure that the SE3 "feel" translates into D3 models. The increments between sizes are different and probably also the fit.

I decided to go with the L and if the fit is tight it will probably be the right size for me. I'll know in some days when it arrives from Germany Smile
The shop I ordered it from has both the M and XL in stock too, so I can always send it back and get another size if it doesn't fit. The price was REALLY good so It'll still be a great deal even if I have to pay double postage.

And thank you for your advice Smile

I spoke to a few people around whistler and they mentioned that the helmets "pack out" like a snowboard boot would.

Just picked up a brand new one for $150 medium seems a little tight though

I measured my head and I should have been a LARGE according to TLD size chart..
When the helmet arrived the large was too small...
I had to get the XL and it fits great..

Same thing happened to a friend....

I'd go one size up IMO

I went with size L and initially it was perfect. After some time the foam gets compressed though, and now I would like it to be a bit more snug. That can be fixed with new foam though.
Size M would definitely have been too small.

I measure 59cm and I went with size L. I gotta say that it feels pretty tight when you put it on but on the head is snug, not tight. Without the cheek pads it sits on the head fine, it's the cheek pads that make it snug. Checked on the website and cheek pads for size large are the thinnest. I just think that XL which is 60-62 could be to big and I can't be bothered to send this one off to just find that out....

But from what you said Nygaard my helmet should feel perfect after some wearing then as your's isn't as snug as it used to be....
