I am building up a new Intense Uzzi and need advice on forks. I am considering both the Fox Van 36 Fit RC2 180mm & the Rock Shox Totem RC2 DH Coil 180mm. I would like to hear the pros and cons from those who have experience with both.

I plan on riding the local trails which consist of rocks, roots and pretty much anything else you can think of as well as park riding, drops, tabletops etc.

i have been considering this issue for a very long time

here are the pros and cons about the 2 i have considered

totem rc2 dh comes in so many colors (white n black), steerer (tapered, straight 1.1/8, straight 1.5), spring type (solo air, 2 step air, coil) i am spoilt for choice but its hard to find the exact model u want
van comes in black only, straight 1.1/8 or tapered steerer, coil only, but easier to get the exact model, but not the color u want (i wanted white only, but van only comes in black, u can buy a float and convert it, but you might need to get your LBS to verify this so u wont void your warranty with fox

1) that said, you will find the van is heaviest of them all, (considering you can get a air or dual air version of totem while van is only coil) unless u have a coil totem which should be a bit heavier
well the bigger the better, though climbing uphill will be more taxing on u

2) u cant really choose colors for van, but u can for totem
i wanted white for my white scott voltage FR is this is a plus for me

3) that said, finding the exact totem model lets say u want coil, white, tapered, 2012 , u will hv to be very lucky cuz its very hard considering there are so many different configurations etc as in 1
i was lucky to find a solo air tapered RC2DH in white, maybe change to coil spring from solo air in the next few months?

4) totem is supposedly more durable 40mm vs 36mm stanchions (totem vs van respectively)
i personally prefer larger stanchions hehe

5) totem u only need to change the spring side assemblies to convert to coil or air or dual step air, so u prefer either the linearity of a coil shock, or the light weight of the solo air or the dual travel of dual position air
i dont know about van interchangeability with float or talas but it should be similar, tho i love the van cuz of the linear coil spring rate
i prefer coil cuz apparently the small bump compliance is better with a coil spring, less stiction from the stanchions, more sensitivity
less maintenance due to less seals and parts on a coil fork
BUT
heavier and harder to tune due to pre configured spring rates in steps (different colors for different rates) very hard to fine tune the spring rate, might keep 1 or 2 springs for different uses

6) totem parts are harder to find compared to van, considering its the only model that uses that size of stanchion in the entire rockshox lineup, van parts are easier 36 stanchion parts are shared with 160/180 mm float, talas etc but seems the older the model, the harder it is to get fox parts (my local distributor is rather slow Frown )

7) fox parts are on the level a bit more expensive than rockshox
about say 100 or 200 depending on model

thats my take! for your consideration

Have a Float 180 on my Uzzi .. actually looking to replace it with a Van 180 or Totem coil 180 .. I feel the air fork is not matched well with the rear.

Another thing to consider is what is your rear shock? Air or coil? One thing you want to try to do is get your fork to match the shock. If the shock is air, go with an air sprung totem. Or a fox float 36 in 180. If the shock is a coil spring, Go with a van or the spring totem. Air and springs ramp up differently under load, and most of the time you can feel a difference if the shock and fork aren't the same. But that's just my two cents.

Your fox totem?

If you've got a totem, your front axle is a 20mm maxle.

That's at chilly so funny I just totaled mine and got a new one and I went to the bike shop and they ordered it for me but I just threw out the box and sold the bike. Sorry but all I can recommend is for you to go to your bike shop and ask for there parts book and look for rock shock axle then look for totems that's what I did it was 50$ cad
