Which Rotor? Ice-tech or not?

Hello,

I am currently thinking of dumping my SLX/Zee (rt-66) rotors 203mm for the rt-86 (xt) ones which are ice-tech.
My goal is best braking power.
I have zee brakes with no-fins pads.

Unfortunately i sold my SLX brakes for the zee ones but i didn't see that much of a difference. Rotors where the same with both brakes.

Any input? Would some ice-tech rotors help? Ice tech pads are a no-go currently as i think are way overpiced.

The IceTech rotors won't make any difference to the power of the brakes.

But what you could do would be to sand slightly the pads and rotors (very fine sand paper, like 600 sand paper). This would remove any possible residue from previous brake pads.

The IceTech stuff only helps with the cooling.

Maybe its just the bed in. Give a zee bed in time. Zee should be more powerful than slx.

From what i see, i don't have high friction with the pads and rotor.
There isn't any significant bite..

Will try to fry the pads and sand a bit the discs and check again

try scuffing the rotors with sandpaper, and lightly scuff the pads, make sure the calipers are aligned, then bed the pads in. im not sure what shimano's bed in procedure is, but i just put a set of hayes stroker aces on tonight and here is how they want them bedded in:

on flat pavement get some speed going, get on the brakes evenly and get the bike almost to a stop, then let off the brakes. sprint back up to speed, and slow again, almost to a stop, but not a complete stop. do that 40-60 times.

they should start coming around after that. mine started to have some good braking power after around 40 cycles.

As other have said use sand paper on pads (I use 100 grit) and lightly sand - make sure that everything is on a flat surface (pads need to be flat). After that use 91% isopropyl alcohol/clean rag to clean pads and rotors. Re-bed in the rotors by heavy stop start action (about 10 times) and you should start to feel the brakes coming back to full power. I just had the same problem with my XT brake and this was the cure.

And as other have said too. The Ice-tech rotors only help dissipate heat, but if all else fails and you need to buy new rotors, in my opinion, they work very well.

Okay, just to give some input, i can't seem to understand why but the brakes definetely are not that powerful, with the slx rotors (non ice-tech).
Don't know what is wrong, but i almost think that i made a mistake buying zee.
I tried scuffing the rotors with sandpaper, and lightly scuff the pads, did some big downhill laps too after that.
They work, but power difference from slx is 10-20% at best.
Tried some codes on a friends bike and damn, they have sooo much more power.
And again i believe this is due to the bite the pads have in combination with the rotors.

Any input would be great. I'm thinking of changing pads and rotors as the ultimate solution.

Give it a try. It may the break in period.
Changing rotor material won't give a huge improvement.
However, zee original pad are resin. While code are sintered.

The only same variable in the problem is the same rotors.
Assuming that the resin pads of the zee are not bad.

I will try maybe some other pads. Any suggestion?
I thought of using truckerco sintered pads

I often recommend the CLBrake VRX pads, but I'm not sure they have released a Zee/Saint set of pads ... I believe the pads for a Hope V4 are the same, but I still have to verify that (I have a set of Saints and V4, and some VRX pads but never took the time to try ^^)
