Bought the Slash 9.8 a few months back, just waiting on delivery.
Foxy87, how does it pedal? I do expect a bit of pedal bob considering it's intended use but I intend to occasionally use it for a 50km social XC style of ride. Is it up to that or too much work?
It pedals and climbs ok I think. Like I said before, the Monarch moves too much for my taste, but maybe this is just in my head. You definitely can do a 50 km ride if you are fit. I dont know how many altitude difference you are going to make, but I would say 1500m to 2000m should be doable....
I just got a 2012 slash 9 and am curious on what rear shock upgrades I can do.
Right now there are only two shocks available. The fox it came with and the rockshox monarch plus (the trek specific one). Any other general shock and you will alter the geometry and you'll be riding in ghetto land.

Thanks dirtworks!
How does the new monarch ride? I know it comes on the new models.
Im eyeing that since it can lock out...be nice on the climbs.
I have a trek slash 7 2013 and I'm thinking about upgrading the rear shock. The new Monarch looks great but I'm not sure where to source one in the uk along with the mounting hardware, (at a reasonable price). Ride impressions and thoughts/know-how on mounting one of these on a older slash? There's also a CCDB coil custom made for a slash in buy/sell, would this be better? Cheers
I own the Slash 8 2014. I love the bike its a blast to ride in the parks.
I think the bike is such a pig though weighing in at 32.xx almost 33 lbs. I swapped to a Thomson stem and RaceFace Atlas bars.
I love almost everything about the bike. The let down is the wheels. If i were to upgrade the wheels what would you riders recommend? On my 26" bikes my wheels of choice were the mavic deetraks that lasted 9 years and 3 bikes before getting ran over by an idiot.
The tires are good enough to use until they are destroyed. If i were to upgrade them what would you riders recommend? I loved the pugatory tires on my 26 bikes.
How are the 1x11 conversions? I briefly road the slash 9 at a demo but not enough 1x11 time to decide if its worth the upgrade should i do that upgrade.
Are the shock upgrades worth the swap? I personally enjoy riding the fox would a shock swap make much of a difference.
Thanks for all the info. I am considering doing some upgrades and tuning the bike for next riding season
Switched from a 38/22 to a 32 and have never looked back. The NW chain rings are pretty epic, ive dropped the chain maybe twice and that was my fault.
Before you switch to a 1x setup just be sure you are 100% committed to no granny gear on the climbs....
Im still on the search for tires I like, since the terrain I ride is extremely loose and sharp rocks i dont much really care as long as the tire can hold up for a month.
In the same boat as wanting to upgrade to the monarch... just not totally sure if the ride is gonna be much difference, just be nice to have more control on the climbs.
