Best full length knee / shin pads for Dh??

okay so i cant seen to find any group tests or decent reviews of any full length knee pads!..and any reviews i do find are from a couple of years back!

I currently have the shorter 661 rage (short ones) but want something with the maximum protection and full coverage!.

the one's i have are fine for trail riding but now i am progressing to uplift tracks and have Morzeine trips booked!...i will be falling off alot and want something pretty decent!

some that look good....

661 Rage full length hard shell.
POC 2.0
Race Face Flank knes/shin
Fox Launch
Nukeproof critical armour

im not too worried about comport and being or able to pedal efficiently as these will be purely for downhill!

Anybody had a few and can compare and recommend?

only interested in full length pads!

I just got a set of IXS Cleaver knee/shin guards and am very impressed so far , really comfortable , really good coverage , light weight and they look cool Smile

I´m very happy with my POC VPD 2.0 DH.
Comfortable and feel like they´d survive anything.

After having some Race Face literally explode in a crash, those are the first full length pads i trust because of the combination of VPD and plastic.

thanks Bigburd!...they do look good those cleavers!- and not a bad price either!

okay so admit it...you are now thinking ...first i cant decide on a bike ...and now knee pads lol :-00

those POCs look very smooth...but cant see much padding.., is all the fabric soft but going hard on impact?...are they quite thick?

they get great reviews but twice the price of everything else!, but if they offer great protection then im not too worried about the cost!

P.s...Bike ordered..yt tues cf pro! ;-)

The funny thing is though, most of the time i don't even read the OP's name. Didn't even realize this was you XD

They are really thick. Basically they are your standard soft protector (like all the others from RF, 661, O'Neal, whatever) but with a little more padding on the inside between your leg and the VPD pads plus a plastic cap on top.
I'd say it'll be pretty damn difficult to find a protector with more material on it.
They also fit around my knee very nice, albeit i have rather thin legs/knees.

I ride with the the Race Face Flanks and overall I really like them. They have taken a beating over 2 seasons and are they are going strong (Velcro straps are holding strong, no tears in the material, impact gel still cushions impacts). For me, these pads don't interfere with pedalling and they can be removed without having to take off your shoes. I also have found them easy to clean

One downfall of these pads is that they are hot. There isn't much ventilation, so they do get sweaty and stinky after a bunch of rides. But as i mentioned above, they are easy to clean so if you clean them about 2-3 times a seasons they should not stink.

I find they slide down. I've had one low speed crash and they slid off my knee - shielded the initial impact but then left my knee open to grazes

having said that they aren't complete rubbish. Wish I had my old Rovex V-Tops from 1995 - they were gold!
