I've been trying to get the monarch rt3 dialed on my cf1. I've had sag set from 28 to 32% with the best feel, but even with the rebound at it's slowest setting the rear seems to pogo/pitch me forward. I've kept the stock number of bands on there. Any suggestions?

What's the best Monarch Plus tune for the Jeffsy? L/L, M/L, or M/M?

M/L as the standard monarch, but rare to come by.
I use a M/M and it made a noticeable difference from the monarch r, night and day!

Others had simillar issues with the monarch on different occasions, it turned out it was a manufacturing defect, something wrong with the rebound rod sticking/tolerance issue.

What psi are you running? Weight?
Did you balance neg/pos air chamber properly?

I'm 180 pounds geared up. Running around 155 psi give or take a few. I did balance the positive and negative.

the seated position/top tube may not be the most important one to consider though, because the reach measurement comes more into effect, as you stand up on the bike. Said reach is relatively short on the 29 and just about average on the 27. so, more focus on climbing or descending?
All depends on what you like/are used to though and also what your body geometry dictates. I am 5f10 and ride the M 29er, whereas most ppl of my height would choose L. That I cannot, because, my legs are vertically challenged and I can barely even fit the 150 dropper beneath me. no way i could ride the L with a 150 dropper.
And for me it fits very nicely, only thing i did geo-wise was fit a bar with more rise..

Specialized's Stumpjumper is a tad shorter even, the Enduro i think is a bit longer, but overall a different proposition (more travel, slacker, well a full on enduro bike, the Jeffsy is a trail bike).

Stumpjumper 29 has (as near as makes no difference) the same geometry, i'd check that out and get a feeling for that see where that leaves you.. i bought mine right after test riding the SJ Big Grin

With the Jeff 29 if you're anything like between sizes I think the key is to get the size up, fit a shorter stem (40mm maybe) and get hold of a 100 or 125 dropper.

I'm 6'1 and was between the L and XL. I went with the L and was initially very pleased with my decision because with the 150 seatpost slammed against the collar and at full extension the position was already pretty good fit. If I'd gone for the XL my inside leg might have been too short.

Since then though I've decided the XL and a shorter stem and 125 post would have been the way to go.

It also depends on where you ride, if the terrain is really steep and you have to get off the back of the bike quickly and lean the bike over the high seat tube and short dropper may get in the way, on my other bike in size xl and the same seat tube length as the Jeffsy xl I have a 170 dropper and sometimes it still isn't enough, I would have preferred tge Jeffsy in xl to have the seat tube reduced by 30mm tbh.

Good observation. I did fit a 170 Reverb because of this exact point.

Guys I really appreciate all the advice. At the moment I ride a pretty small bike (a 2012 22inch Focus Superbud, with 26inch rims....). So I am used to a small bike, I also like an "upward" riding position. So I was thinking that maybe an XL would meet my personal riding style. However I was/am not really convinced. I think you are confirming the fact that the Jeffsy XL is too small... I need to go to Germany to fit the bike I guess.

I will be fitting a Stumpjumper XL anytime soon. If I look at the geometry, the XL SJ is bigger than the Jeffsy XL, but if it still feels too small, I have an option for an XXL with the SJ. Only downside is the price, and the parts installed. The Jeffsy is such a good deal...

I have googled all the brands and types you have recommended! Thanks!

Take a look at the Bikeyoke Revive dropper. It comes in a 185mm version.

I run the 160 on my Jeffsy M. Its just a brilliant piece of dropper. No sag issues here. If it sags you just turn a 4mm Hex and its as good as new.
One of the best upgrades I made.

Hi Everyone,

I want to buy an SRAM crankset and bottom bracket for my 2017 Jeffsy. Can anyone help by confirming what the bottom bracket width is and what press fit cup size I need?

Thanks!

Rich.

I have just replaced the BB on my 2016 CF Jeffsy with this;

Don't think they changed the BB size from 2016 to 2017.

The hope one is much more substantial than the standard race face item

Are you sure, the XL Stumpjumper is bigger than the XL Jeffsy? I demoed a L Stumpjumer which was almost exactly the same size as the M Jeffsy

Almost all of the values are higher for the Stumpjumper. The Reach is the only thing that is a little bit bigger on the Jeffsy. It doesnt differ that much, so I dont think its that big of a difference. The only thing is that Specialized also has an XXL...

About the only combo I didn't try and would of liked to give it a go but in the end decided not to because of cost etc was to install an angleset headset accompanied by the 160 fork shaft and offset bushes, but to be fair I think you would need 165mm cranks. As I had already purchased 175mm six c cranks I wasn't about to try with the angleset as I smacking peddles like a mofo.

For me the 150 fork in low setting, no offsets and a decent plush tune on the shock, although I keep making it stiffer each time I ride! Love the pop!! Makes the most sense for the chassis. I used to ride a specialised pitch back in the day with a fox 36 at 160 was a good bike but the front end always used to soak it up while the rear just got hammered, bit like riding a hardtail in that respect!

With the pike at 150 I feel it just feels right def the sweet spot for me.

Maybe with a stiffer carbon frame would be a good match up for a 36 but for the alloy one I would say for me anyway the front would be way stiffer than the rear, leaving me riding into some Knar thinking I be fine and the rear just gets overwhelmed! Leaving me with no other option than to try and brake in amongst the rock sections etc not fun!

I think it's best to leave it as an aggressive trail bike and ride it like a ninja!

It all really depends on the individual though for sure as we all like different setups and we all ride different dirt so you can only take it all with consideration as at the end of the day it's down to what you want and how you want it good luck

I haven't run it with an angleset (carbon frame....), but yeah the 160+offset combo makes the front end a little too capable in comparison to the rear. I can only speak for the carbon frame, but it's not so much an issue of stiffness so much as it is that 160mm up front kills that kind of "balance" that really makes the bike feel stable.

FWIW, 150mm in low with offsets is pretty epic. You get that slacker HTA and longer wheelbase that really makes you feel planted, but the suspension feels more balanced than at 160. Most of my trails are best at 140/140 low, but when I'm feeling sendy the 150/140 low + offset really makes the bike a ripper.

yea for me a few tracks I ride have some tight nasty corners but if you really load the suspension up you can get a nice kick out of the corners and jump out of the berm clearing lots of the rough! Just always seemed to clip a pedal when really compressing in, as one particular corner has a root system at the exit and used to clip my pedal so took the offset bushes out and no probs since. Again all depends wear you ride for your best setup!
