We're two guys coming to bc for two weeks in august/September. Plan on renting a car, but it's kinda hard to find decent rental car for bringing the bikes. Anyone with experience or recommendations on this? Thanks!
Doing the same. I'm having just as difficult a time. Have you discovered anything?
Not really. We're going to look into a caravan of sorts, but have not decided anything yet. Otherwise might consider a cargo van that they usually rent to people moving stuff.
Cant believe that no one is marketing stuff like this, there has got to be a pretty good marked.
Yeah, you could rent a truck. Probably won't come with a hitch, but you could use a tailgate pad, they're pretty cheap (my shop in ab even rents them). Worst case you can rent a minivan or a full-size SUV and do the perilous bike stack in the back.

We ended up renting a full size SUV. It came with a tow hitch. We found a fairly new bike rack at a used sports equipment store for $300 used it for two weeks and sold it back to the same place for $200. It was the SUV rental that killed us in price and we had received 60% off
I am not sure if they are allowed to leave the greater vancouver area, but evo car share might be worth looking into. They have bike and ski racks on them. THe downside is that it is a toota yaris. It is 79$ a day I think, but perhaps car shares already come with their own insurance and in that case maybe as cheap as a car renatl and getting insurance. The other option is just getting one of those 'strap on' kind of car racks. Have one guy wait at aiport and the other rip over to walmart of canadian tire. They are 99$ and you can usually find a way to strap on two bikes with throwing a moving blanket between them so as not to ruin your bikes. But the moving van rental is a good idea actually. Not a super comfy ride, but safe for the bikes and saves on hotels.
Cheers for the input guys. Planning a trip out next year and stumbled on this problem already. Small Pickups cost twice the price of the flight to rent for 2 weeks! Im thinking of getting a large car, buying some blankets/dust sheets and just taking the wheels on and off to load up in the back. Do you guys take your bikes into the hotels/apartments with you when you are there? or leave them in the car?

Leaving in the car is not an option, it will get stolen. You have to bring them into your accommodations unless it's one of the hotels with legit secured bike storage like Aava.
Car in back of rental is fine, just be careful your pedals/bars don't scratch or dent the car and that chain lube/grease doesn't stain anything.. some dirt/dust is fine they will vacuum it out.
Another options is renting a minivan and folding the back row down.
