What are you actually trying to do? Your question is pretty vague....

Theoretically you could cut 3mm off each side.

Not practical though. Get a proper hub.

I'm going to lean towards the 'don't' vote.

But, there are adapters available that will allow a 142x12 rear hub to work in a boost frame. I've seen them include axle spacers and rotor spacers.

The reverse is not possible... A boost hub will never be able to work in a non-boost frame or fork. The disc mounting of a boost hub is offset to work with the boost sizing.

I hope that helps.

What if you had a lathe at your disposal and took off the boost caps off say on a DT Swiss DH600 370 Hub Boost and turned them down to size!

It's physically impossible. The amount of work needed to get things even remotely close makes it not worth ruining perfectly good parts.

the extra 3mm is between the hub flanges so if you ground down the end caps either your small cog would grind on the frame or the disc wouldn't line up with the brake caliper or both

So the obvious solution is to have a waterjet to split the hub in two, machine out a few mm , then use a tig , a bit of anodizing and you can now use the boost hub.

Or just buy the proper hub. Either way works.
