Hey everyone!

Next week I'll be getting my 2018 Transition Patrol GX build from the shop.

It comes stock with a Lyrik RC.

The thing is I'd love to have the 3 position lever and the compression ajustment on the fork.

Anyone knows if there is any kind of upgrade kit for it? Or do I have to buy a new damper just to have the 3 position lever?

Cheers

RC isn't bad I'd try before changing, it maybe un-necessary expense - if you are not someone who locks out their fork on every climb then you may find you are perfectly happy with the RC. I have an RC Pike & an RCT3 Lyrik and not being some one who uses lock out for pedalling the Lyrik Open / Pedal adjuster will never move from Open. The compression gets set and stays where it is on both except if I'm riding jumps on both. Only advantage I can see is if you want to lock out for up hill without disturbing how many clicks compression you have set and to be honest the way the dial is on an RC it'd be quite easy to guess with in a click where you have it as it's so large a dial.

Maybe you're right!

I'll try it first and then decide...

How many clicks of compression does the RC model have?

Pike's (at least the older models) have quite a big difference between the RC and RCT3 that goes beyond just losing some external adjustment. The shim-stack on an RC has to have considerable preload compared to RCT3 in order to keep it's high firmness when 'locking' it out, if it didn't, the shim stack would just crack under low speed forces when the adjuster is completely tight.

Try the RC and if you don't like it and are handy with suspension servicing, then move the ring shim down the stack. Pike 2014 forum on mtbr has some good info.

Standard Yari RC has 10 clicks of compression, Pike RC 13 clicks.

Are you talking about high speed compression shimstack?

I pref my rc over my and any other rct3 Iv ridden . Rct3 is never spot on always feels like a compromise. Opens to open mid is to firm and lock out never gets used. I don't even see how it saves any time whatsoever. If you put the lever on the rc in the same 3 positions as the rc3 it has the same affect. Only difference is you feel the extra clicks when turning the dial. Only the last 5 turns on the "fine "adjust/set dial make any real difference on a rct3 anyway. So rct3 have less adjustment range in reality.
I was looking at junking my rct3 I came across the fast dampener and there website confirmed the same thing, only last few clicks that do anything on them.
Thats my experience anyway.

Looks like you guys made my mind... Not touching anything for now looks like the best option.

I'll see if some aftermarket mods get released for it, like something by Vorsprung or Push...

Mark has a point, RC I certainly find easier to get setup which could indeed be the good range of adjustment the single dial offers.

Hi RNeves, I also owned 2018 Lyrik RC and it seem that my Low Compression Speed dial knob is really hard to rotate and doesn't have a click. Have you tried yours? Is it easy to rotate and have clicks?

This is my understanding of it, and I by no means know what I'm taking about.

The three RCT3 settings are the high speed compression adjustments, open, pedal, and firm all of which will compress if you take a big hit and blow through. The new charger 2 is supposed to be more useable in all settings so the firm still actually moves and isn't a complete lock out as apparently very few riders would use the firm setting. The low speed compression dial is also adjustable, how many clicks id have to go check mine sorry, and only effects the forks when in the OPEN setting.

The RC damper only has LSC from Open to Firm. So basically in open the RCT3 and RC are the same, the RC just doesn't have the threshold (pedal) and firm settings.

Both have the same rebound adjustments.

In my opinion the RCT3 is the better damper, but it would be silly to swap the whole damper out just for three high speed settings.

The RC2 has independent low speed and high speed compression settings which would be kinda tight if you like to tinker with your setup.

If anything I said is wrong well whoops.

The 3-pos on the RCT3 is low-speed compression, it is designed to quickly go from fully open to half closed to fully closed LSC depending on what the rider wants. LSC (low shaft speed) is what matters when pedaling which is what that lever is for. Pike/Lyric RC and RCT3 is the same Charger damper, it's just the shim stack config that is different. Charger 2 is different.

HSC is not user tuneable without opening up the fork on Charger 1.

Yes everything I was saying was in reference to the charger 2.

I had read the three positions were HSC. Again however just cuz I read it doesn't make it true.

Also I just realized I revived a dead thread in a way haha.

Yes, I would have to agree in everything you just said. And you are correct as well that on RCT3 Open mode is the same as the RC setup. On my lyrik RC I tried doing some test, when I dialed the LSC knob all the away counter clockwise (Open), I noticed that at the beginning of the stroke the compression is a bit softer. This will be good if you want more sensitivity to small bumps. And all the way clockwise (Firm), the initial compression is a bit firm. However, both settings compressed the same way. The only difference I noticed was as the beginning of the compression. During big hit, the difference will be unnoticeable and this is where i think RCT3 comes in.

And by the way regarding the LSC dial on my 2018 Lyrik RC, the reason that it was too hard to rotate to the point that it will hurt your finger was that the LSC cap was too tight. I loosen the top screw and managed to free it. Now I counted there were 11 clicks. However, for some reason I don't know. It seems like the top cap tighten up after you leave it for a while and I have to loosen it again. Very weird and not so sure if this is normal. The fork that I have is an OEM version. I bought it from a guy who upgraded his new bike with a new fork. So basically it is unused. I haven't installed the fork on my new bike. I just did some test to make sure I wasn't scammed. Big Grin

My OEM Lyric RC 2018 works absolutely the same way.
I can barely feel the difference between fully open and fully closed.
