I've had times in the past where I enjoyed something but then eventually because of doing it too much, I got burnt out and just uninterested in whatever it was. How do you guys avoid getting burnt out with mountain biking? I suppose you just have different hobbies so that you balance your time and not get burnt out, but I just end up thinking about mountain biking and wanting to watch some trail videos (and riding whenever I can). I don't know if my other "hobbies" aren't just good enough for me, or if it's some other thing. I might try cutting back a lot on how many MTB videos I watch, because I think that's just over-exposing me to mountain biking. What are your thoughts?
Maybe you just don't enjoy it that much, not every hobby is for everybody? Also, try out different type of rides. What I've found is that the kind of rides that most people love I don't enjoy so much. Every time I visit a groomed bike park I can DEFINITELY see the appeal, but I guess I just don't have the same skills as people do that really push and enjoy it. I like remote adventure rides, rides that put me out in the middle of nowhere and feel more like hiking but on a bike. Also, having someone you enjoy riding with there with you makes it a lot more fun. I'm with the others that this and fishing are the only two hobbies that I've not managed to get bored of, and I've been riding close to two decades regularly.
2. Ignore the "VanLife" / lifestyle Vlogs and other forms of social media "influencers"
What about Youtubers like Seths Bike Hacks, Singletrack Sampler, BCPOV, etc where they just show trail riding?
I don't know....Is it ok to watch porn? Sure. But if you are watching so much that it's distorting your real life expectations or otherwise having a negative impact on your life .... might be time to reconsider.

I've been person that goes through phases my whole life. When I was 10, it was Yoyos. From 12 years old to 15, it was amateur rocketry. Then piano. Then percussion. I climbed for 3 years like it was my whole life. I even did triathlon for a couple years. I've been mountain biking for 3 years, which is usually when I start to lose interest in a hobby. However, I've never been more stoked about riding than I am right now. For me, MTB really hits the sweet spot for all the things that I like in recreation: it's outside, it's physical, it's social, it's got an adrenaline aspect, it's a gear-head sport, and it takes me to new places. Those aspects definitely play a role in its sustainability for me.
However, I think that the biggest thing is the variability of experience. Even on your local trails, there is so much variety to be had that it's hard to get bored. Even if you only have one bike and one trail, you still need to ride that trail both directions, in the rain, at night, in each season, with different tires, at varying speeds, and with different people before you really start to run out of new experiences. And then you'll get a new bike and be like "hey I need to hit that one section to see what it's like", and you have an all-new experience to look forward to. All on one trail.
Boredom and burnout are basically the result of doing the same thing with the same results over and over. You DO NOT have to do that with mountain biking. So my advice? Try new things. Try ALL the new things. Go new places. Ride with new people. Learn to manual. Do something different......but do it on your bike.
Get friends who ride, i have days where i dont want to go and when they ask i say yes. After the ride im happy i went. And every so often i get that epic ride which refills my need to ride.

Yeah. I try to ride as much as I can, but it'll be pretty limited until I get my license in January, then I'll hopefully be able to go on rides more often.
