Taking a mirrorless camera out on rides

After more than 10 years shooting Canon, most of those full frame, I’ve decided to move to a mirrorless system, likely Fuji. The main motivation behind this is that my camera gear often gets left at home. I never take it out on my bike because it is too big to fit in my hydration pack and too heavy.

I’m hoping a mirrorless system will change this, in particularly looking forward to having a small body and fast prime that I can slip into my hydration pack and whip out to take photos of the stunning scenery I’ll be riding through, or my mates shredding etc.

However, I don’t want my shiny new mirrorless camera rattling around in my hydration pack with tubes, snacks, tools etc, I’d also like it to have some protection when I fall. Simply wrapping it up in my waterproof jacket is not good enough! What are you using to protect your camera on a ride?

I've bought a Fuji X-T2, which should be pretty robust, but I'm still looking for some decent protection.

Hi, It's been a while, you've probably found a solution by now.
I've got an E-M1, which I guess is about the same size as the X-T2.

For longer, less sketchy trips I got with a Small Shallow ICU by F-Stop which fits body and 3 lenese (one of which attached).

For shorter, enduro trips with some pretty DH style parts, I only take body and a lens and have a neoprene camera wrap.
Then always end up needing the lens I didn't take...but I also want to ride, haha.

Thanks, I'm still looking for a solution. I actually have a small FStop ICU from my DSLR days, but like you say, I want to ride!

I'm still looking, so far it seems my options are a neoprene camera wrap, that I am not sure will offer much impact protection, or something big and bulky, that I don't really want to take out on my bike.

I ended up buying a Lowe Pro Adventura SH110ii camera bag, as it was the smallest bag at my local camera shop that fitted my Fuji X-T2 with 23mm f2 lens. Together the set up is less than 1kg and fits perfectly at the top of my hydration pack.

I primarily shoot Nikon DSLR's, but bought a Sony A7iii last year for video and occasional photo use. One of the things I loved about it was the fact that it fit inside my Dakine fanny pack with 35mm f2.8 or 50mm 2.8 lens attached. I can't to do that with any of my Nikon bodies and lenses.
