Cane Creek DB inline coil knocking

So here is the history of damage to the shock
Bike was used on an evil wreckoning to my best knowledge. Delta linkage mashed the hsc/hsr dials which caused minor leaking. I thought this was something I would just have to live with until I decided to keep screwing and unscrewing the dials. This may have reshaped the metal around it or something because the leaking completely stopped. Also the shock, while in climbing mode, makes a very loud air compression sound. Not sure if that's what happens or not but I'm new to cane creek as well as coil. But my biggest worry is the knocking. While going over very small bumps at low speed I hear a knocking sound (literally sounds like someone knocking on a door) this only happens when the shock is barely compressed. I have 0 desire to get it serviced because I can buy a new inline coil for 70$ more than the service costs (they are on sale at Jenson). Anyone have any issues related to this?

I wasn't the original owner of the shock. Apparently the guy before me leant it to his friend and that happened

I have one myself but this hasn’t happened to me... it appears to be a “known” issue with Cane Creek and they all seem to be warrantying it. There is a whole MTBR thread about it and unfortunately the only way to fix it is to have CC rebuild it.

According to people, knocking only happens in the climb mode and doesn’t appear to affect performance.

I bought one of the Jensonusa shocks and it is knocking out of the box.
I'm just going to ride it for a few months and then warranty it when it needs a service.

The performance of the shock is top notch though.

Good idea. I was looking at the price and it's not a bad deal, on sale at least.

If you are talking about the 200x50 there is 1 left at that price I believe.
There is a travel spacer in that shock that allows it to get 200x57 also.

Here in 2024, unfortunately still happening with the IL Coil in climb mode.
