Not sure if this thread will gain much attention. just curious as to what modifications 165 owners have done, what has worked/not worked,
So far my 165 is stock, looking at upgrading the shock to an air shock with climb switch/lockout, then maybe the brakes.

I'm helping a friend buy a bike and this is near the top of the list. Nice bike and solid spec. Any upgrades will cost a lot for very little improvement.

As much as I like coil shocks, the lighter shock and climb switch makes sense.

- You could get a super long dropper post if you can fit it - up to 212 mm!
- Cassette is a bit heavy, but lighter ones cost a fortune.
- Hubs are basic, but they ought to hold up and the rims are nice.
- Tires are posh triple compound with Double Down casing. I like wide tires and would prefer a 2.5" on the rear, but you can just move the front to the rear when the rear wears out, then mount a fresh front.
- I normally hate lock-on grips, but even the grips are decent.

Okay, I'd change the grips to my beloved, squishy, non-locking Oury. That's what I would upgrade. The grips.

I swapped the cockpit and saddle, but that's about it for now.
-Stem - Deity Copperhead (31.8mm)
-Bars - Deity Brendog cut to 780mm
-Grips - ODI Rogue
-Saddle - Deity Speedtrap

In my experience, those i29 rims don't last on rough terrain (the ones that came on my old 153 are toast). I have a second wheelset I swap out for DH.

I think at some point during the season I'll end up throwing a Float X2 on, mainly to lighten it up and have a climb switch.

Kona 153 is 205x60 so a 205x65 will fit but will be already 5mm into its travel

It would yes.
The 205mm is the total length, fully extended. As this is identical, the bike's static/unweighted position is the same as before.
But as the stroke is longer, it will go further into it's travel.

It would yes.
The 205mm is the total length, fully extended. As this is identical, the bike's static/unweighted position is the same as before.
But as the stroke is longer, it will go further into it's travel.

So if I put this 205x65 shock on my process 153 it would make it a process 165?? Are the frames the same? Anyone tried it for clearance?
