I'm looking at getting a ripmo v1 with a -1deg angleset or a ripmo v2 frame. Obviously the v1 is much cheaper!
I see lots of people complaining that the v1 bottoms out easily. True story? Do shock volume spacers solve the issue?
FWIW I weigh about 185 fully geared up - I ride pretty hard but mostly front range colorado trails - the gnarliest this bike will see on the regular would be the new Floyd Hill DH trail.

The biggest issue is they ship the bike with 1 volume reducer. I ended up adding 2 additional in the rear as the travel is very linear and it seems common for people to run 4 reducers. If you plan on hucking to flat often, pick up a v2. If you are just shredding trails with the occasional drop, it ls going to take anything you throw at it.
Bottom out issues can be controlled by Volume spacers. I have a 2020 Ripmo but it is still a V1 . I ordered with the Fox X2 and had to add 2 extra volume spacers to get it to where I liked it. ( 3 total in there now ). I use nearly all the susupension now and no harsh bottom outs. I am 6'1" and 225lbs so I put it thru the ringer as I ride mostly enduro type trails. Run it with the normal head angle for a little bit before you change it up. It climbs so much better when the stock HA is on there. And you really dont notice it on the downhills. In fact I'm coming from a Scott genius ( which I loved and was super comfortable on) that had a 1 degree slacker head angle than the V1. I have smashed all of my uphill and downhill run times with the Ripmo. Lastly I rented a Shockwiz for a week to set up my suspension and im glad I did. It helped me out with the X2 a lot. Dialed in my PSI, spacers as well as all the other adjustments on it. It was worth the money to rent it.
I recently picked up a 2019 V1 with DPX2. I weigh 215-220 geared up, running the mid size volume spacer. I find I have to run well over what Ibis recommends in their setup guide to hit the proper sag. I do notice that I regularly use nearly all of the travel but I've yet to bottom out hard enough to be concerned. I'll be fitting the next size volume spacer soon to see if it makes much of a difference. I'm an aggressive trail rider and there are no massive drops near me, trails are rough and steep.
I am 173 with gear on, have max spacers in X2 and ride DH trails regularly with drops, gaps, flat drops, etc. and have never had a harsh bottom out, I can use the full length of the shock very effectively.

This. It’s really very interesting how often I find I used 95% of my travel but no bottom outs. I have gone up to 3 volume reducers in my x2 but recently backed down to 2 spacers and like the spring rate for my every day trail riding. If I hit the bike park I will throw another volume reducer in but that’s not my day to day riding.
Would be a very hard decision if I was buying a new Ripmo today, I am sure I would go v2 but if money is tight, you are not missing anything with a v1. And the v1 colors are better anyways. Ha.
I have a V1 and have a X2(DL2Q). There’s a red volume reducer limiter (it’s just a big spacer, probably about the size of 2 actual volume reducers, held in by rubber bands) I can’t run more than 2 reducers (per Fox) in my X2 for whatever reason. I’m bottoming out on small 3 foot drops and I’m only 145lbs with gear no matter where the HSC is and running more psi than recommended. Running more PSI than I already am will just make it ride like garbage everywhere else, so that’s not an option anymore.

When’s the last time your shock was serviced? As a fellow v1 rider, something is possibly wrong with your shock or setup. Although it’s not uncommon to bottom out on the v1, it’s not something that should be happening constantly. I suppose a 3ft drop to flat would realistically bottom out most bikes.
What sag are you running in the rear? I personally run about 23%.

@mrpfp Which volume spacer did you end up using? And is the mid size spacer the 0.6? Curious to see what others have ended up using and I’m about the same weight and similar trail type.

I tried the 0.6 light blue spacer and the rebound damping couldn’t keep up. Went back to the 0.4 gray spacer before finally buying a Topaz and shelving the DPX2. Base setup on the Topaz was instantly better than any tuning I achieved with the DPX2.
Hi guys. Recently bought a 2019 V1 with Fox Factory Grip 2 fork and float X2 shock. And currently running max volume spacers in the rear. What are you guys running for HSC ? And how many spacers in the fork? I seem to be consistently bottoming out on drops (not huge ones) ...mind you they are to flat. Is it possible that I just require a bike with more travel? 170mm front and back?

If you are riding park, you probably need to crank the hsc if you don’t want to bottom out as much. Drops to flat are not really what this bike was designed for. I’ve had the same experience, but the setting needed to make it a better park bike are not what I would recommend for trail riding.
Ok thanks. I think I'm looking for a set up where no matter what I throw at it, the bike is going to handle it...and maybe such a set up just does not exist. or maybe I just need to spend more time really trying to learn different tuning settings to accomodate the trail I'm riding. I've read a lot of threads with people saying the Ripmo can "handle it all, even the gnarly park trails" but I'm just not finding that to be the case. I think the Ibis HD6 might be more of a jack of trades type of bike than the Ripmo

What are you running for HSC settings and your psi at ? I weigh between 165 - 170, and have max volume spacers in my Float X2 and am still bottoming out off drops.
I have a 2019 V1 carbon Ritmo and I have not had an issue Bottlemen it out yet and I’m 170 without gear although I’ve got it up for sale just because I’m getting old and I bought a Santa Cruz bullet it’s listed on pink bike
