My buddy has an 08 Talas 36 RC2 that hasn't been serviced in waaayyy too long. I've done a bunch of Float lowers services/seal replacements but that's about it. Would love to do a lowers service on the Talas but can't find any tech docs on the Fox site except for the oil volumes. 1) Can I still get new parts for it, including seals/wipers and crush washers? (Does it use crush washers?) 2) Can I do a lowers service without servicing the Talas air shaft, which I hear is notoriously finicky, besides just cleaning it, smearing some Slick Honey on it, and making sure to put the right amount and weight of oil on top of it? 3) Anyone possibly have any service docs for this fork?
My 07 Fox 36 Van RC2 cartridge got serviced a year ago, though it was just a straight forward oil change, the bladder was in good order and nothing special was needed, the shop still had at the time a suitable bladder in stock, though I believe parts may be getting less nowadays, as at the time they could not get info on a 05 Fox 32 Van as fox had discontinued service of this, not to say I couldn't get info and parts outwith.
Seals, foam rings, crush washers and general lower leg service stuff is all still available, as all the fox forks share the same in respective stanchion size, well upto 2018 as far as I can tell.
When I buy a Fox seal kit they tend to have the mix of crush washers to suit the varoius forks, as your right the float crush washer is different to the Talas, as one is alloy as opposed to plastic.
Have come across most of the service instructions for my older forks online, had to search though, as some off the stuff gets lost or deleted, especially the pic tutorials due to the picture sights charging, so if you find anything, save it, print it, for your future ref.
Don't beleive Fox make the flange seals anymore, there all flangless ? its just that little outside lip thats missing ( personally prefered the lip as an extra dirt ingress barrier ) my 32's and 34's are on flangless seals, even the 2004 Fox 32 floats on my kids bikes, yet to change my 36 as have a few older type seals still, but surely can't see why those wouldn't work with the newer type also.
For my recent Float forks (both FIT4 and GRIP) I'm used to seeing air-side bath, damper-side bath, and air chamber (ie above the top of the air spring). This lists a row for the damper but not quantity (red), and three different volumes of float fluid for the IFP, main, and negative chambers, in addition to the baths. Are you saying I can just change the oil in the baths and leave everything else alone?
I have no experience with the Talas model, but I would say the blue float fluid is for the Talas cartridge side, aware the Talas has adjustable travel settings, and guess it has various air chambers to make this work, whense the blue float fluid, like in the float air model.
Like my Float and Van models, the gold 20wt is the slopping around oil outwith catridge & internals in both legs ( dif volumes )
The red is for the RC2 FIT catridge, guessing theres no mention of volume for red oil, as the catridge is reserved for certified Fox service centre to service, not for the likes of us home grease monkeys : ) though its around 10ml going by the online tutorials for my Van RC2, also the RC2 does not need as regular service compared to the lowers, due to the FIT system, plus its a lot more involved undertaking.

you can, as the 20wt gold bath oil is what lubricates your bushings, stanchions, so at the basic service level change 20wt, along with clean or replace foam rings and seals as needed.
As said I have no experiance with the Talas, but if compared to the Fox float, I could get away with not changing the blue float fluid in my float forks, as this doesn't succumb to the same levels of contamination as the stanchions and bushings, however, I would not want to ignore it for to long, and would only consider doing this as I have already serviced this area prior and know of its condition.
If you have some 2nd hand forks, then you do not nessissarily know its history or condition, and would suggest getting it looked at to reset the condition benchmark if you like.
