Hello. I'm new to mountain biking. Just finished my first season. My bike is marin Bobcat trail 3. After few months with it, I definitely feel like I need upgrade. I would like to replace drive train 2x9 to something 1x. I have no idea what parts to look for not to spend a fortune. Any tips please?

On a tight budget this would be the cheapest 1x crankset you could buy as it will fit your current square taper so no need to buy and fit a different bottom bracket. Don't know where you are in the world but this shop does European delivery:-

Then a Shimano or similar HG compatible 10 or 11 speed (eg: 11-42?) cassette, chain, derailleur and shifter as long as matching speeds will work together. Would recommend stick with all Shimano components for simplicity and to avoid any complications.
