Hi there!

I currently have a 2019 Santa Cruz 5010 with a 130mm travel 210x50 Fox dps rear shock. I am upgrading to the Dpx2 and I am confused about travel. I have looked at other shocks that also have the required 210x50 dimensions but are 140mm. Will these work for my bike since it is meant for 130mm?

O+

The only size number you have to worry about is 210x50.

The travel numbers is due to leverage ratio.

Not to add more confusion for you, but you also want to make sure that the stock rebound/compression tune are the same, unless that dpx2 is off of another SC.

Also, the DPS and DPX2 isn't going to be a night-and-day difference on that bike in terms of ride quality. Possibly a bit more small-bump sensitivity. Sure, more oil volume, not that that's a big deal on a 130mm bike. Maybe a placebo effect from the new shock as well (or stoke from a new bike part too). As a side note, the 2021 model is different from previous iterations, insofar as changing the base valve and open mode, iirc.

At full MSRP, the DPX2 and super deluxe ultimate simply aren't worth it from a performance standpoint in my experience - at least as long as that 5010 will clear other brand's shocks - If you have a 2019, you should be able to fit just about whatever. A coil shock (CC inline, DB; dvo jade, etc) with a progressive spring works pretty well on those in my experience.

If you're getting a great deal on a take-off shock from another 5010, go for it. If it's from the buy/sell or similar, make sure the tune matches up (should be visible on the shock body through the tune id) and that it hasn't been thrashed for a few seasons and it's being sold by someone who just wants to upgrade and not service their old shock.

Okay, I did get a really good deal on a brand new 2021 dpx2 but it is off an intense primer and docent have the same custom ID code. Is there a way to change this to match the tune I need?

Well, the custom ID code won't be the same, that's a unique code. You should be able to find out from that code (I forget if you can do it in the ridefox app or not) what the stock tune is. If you already have the shock, you should be able to find out if it's tuned wildly wrong just by riding, i.e. if your setup has it at the absolute ends of the adjustment range and you still need more.
