NEW Shimano EP8 Failure - Anyone else out there with a warranty?

Seeing if anyone else out there has had problems with their EP8. Purchased an SC Bullit in march and I now have 520 miles on it. Yesterday I drove down south to explore some new trail in Utah. 20ft into my ride and the motor cut out. You can hear the motor spinning and attempting to assist, but no power is delivered. My first thoughts are that the disengagement part of the motor that allows it to pedal freely after 20 has already broken.

If you've already had a problem/warranty, how long did it take for you to get a replacement? I heard September is the next shipment on those... o how I hope it's not that long.

I had the top battery mount for my E8000 fail last year I started the process in Nov 2020 and took till Mar 2021 (~5 months) to get it actually fixed. Hopefully a motor issue is more straight forward than finding a small part.

Likley its the drive motor gear stripped to the next one, seems if you stand hard the bearings allow twist which strips it, buy another bike, use the motor, then when you get warranty put it in the new unused bike and sell it, as ya warranty will be september

There are motors around if they can find them. At least there is a part number for it. Neither Santa Cruz or Shimano can figure out who made the long speed sensor cable in the Heckler / Bullit bikes.

Both companies defer to the other, and I'm out of a bike for a $40 cable that doesn't exist.

Shimano never told me what went wrong with it. Soonest a new one would come in was September, so probably October. Luckily the bike shop has a demo with complete battery failure. They had similar lead times so they gave me the motor out of the demo in the meantime.

Good the shop took care of you. Else Oct is a hell of a long time out. Hopefully yours is an isolated case

I'm now trying to find this speed sensor for my bullit. Did you ever find it?

Got a SC Bullit on June 2021. Have riden it a bit over 2000kms, amazing bike! Loved it!

Unfortunately, I recently started getting the E010 error "Abnormal sensor.....". It was a bit random but started getting more frequent. The local SC dealer has it right now...tested it....submitted warranty request yesterday. We'll see how long it takes given the current supply chain issues globally...crossing my fingers.

I am not good at checking this forum I guess. I did find the cable, but it took Shimano calling Santa Cruz and then getting me a part number , then me calling santa cruz and asking for a specific person, who then had the cable but couldn't send me one. Then they decided they could, so I have one now.

I bought another bike during all the drama so I didn't lose ride time, but it was a nightmare. And I had to buy the cable, no warranty.

I just sent my Bullit back to Santa Cruz with was appears to be the same ailment as the OP. A quick snap, then no power delivery despite a whirr from the motor. I'm not expecting a quick resolution but damn you'd expect to get more than 600 miles out of a $11K bicycle...

Hi! I just experienced this problem in my new bike... first time riding it... less than 8 miles, suddenly a snap, the motor keeps making noise like it's "trying to help you", but absolutely no power delivered.

How did you solve it? Did you find the root of the problem? I just sent my bike back to the store.

I was getting ready to go on a ride yesterday and in the garage turn my boat on came up with an air E010 can’t clear it up. I was told that it may have something to do with the sensor. Didn’t know if anybody else out there had a problem, but now I’m seeing that the heckler and bullet may have issues with the EP8 motor. I’m hoping it is under warranty. I got it in 2021 and I understand there’s a two year warranty on them.

How I wrote about my Santa Cruz bullet in the EP8 motor found out that Shimano is not going to cover it because it’s just out of warranty $1500 for a motor. My question is if I were to buy a 2021 EP8 motor for the $1500 and put it in is it a plug and play or is there a special set up that a shop has to do the other question is is it the 2021EP8 motor with all the issues for new motors it seems that’s the only year that you can get is a 2021
