I recently bought a Magicshine Monteer 6500s not even 3 months ago, and the battery randomly shuts off and has to be plugged into a charger to turn it on.

all the connections between the battery to the ligh seem to be fine (I mean where 1 cord joins the other). I have never dropped the light or gotten it wet (apart from a light rain night ride for like 20min which the waterproof rating should be able to handle)

Anyway, the light has now shutdown completely randmly 3 times, and the battery will not work at all unless it is plugged into a chargre, then it goes back to normal apart from the battery indicator thinking its still charging the whole time.

When the light shuts down, the battery indicator on the light head says its 70-100% (green mode) and then the battery indicator doesnt work or do anything.

Can anyone help

thx

My 6500s has just started doing exactly the same thing. Battery pack cuts out so light doesn't work and push to test charge LEDs don't work. plugging back into the charger for a few seconds seems to reset and it starts working again.

Mine's a little older at 9 months.

Have you had any luck/managed to sort yours?

I have 6500 and when it works the light is great but the reliability is completely rubbish.

After just a few uses the light started randomly running out of battery after just a few minutes use, despite being on charge for days and the charger showing a green light.
Now the battery will not charge at all.

Its a real shame.

My issue looks to be a faulty battery cable causing a short circuit at the end where it connects to the battery. (I have this battery: https://magicshine.com/collections/accessories/products/mj-6118-battery-pack

If you have the same battery then its well worth checking. I asked someone else who had the same issue as I was experiencing and they replied with the below which describes the fault:

"It wasn't the battery. The problem was the cable that connects to the battery. A short-circuit between positive and negative cables. I found it with a multimeter. The problem is what you said, the battery could be 100% charged, but with a short circuit, the battery self protect and is like dead. Connecting to the power (charger), and starts working again, but the cable should be unplugged, because when short circuit again, battery off again (100% charged). Also, when charging, if the cable is connected and short circuit, then only 1 led blinks, even when fully charged"

Here's a video of fault - the beeps indicate a short circuit (the connector for the battery end has 4 pins, the left and middle left are connected, and the right and middle right are connected - the fault is all 4 become connected creating a short circuit):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aUc8qEdBM-hASP8OQ6L5pxGoDf0VUzD4/view?usp=sharing

I have a warranty replacement cable on its way to me, once that arrives I'll probably try and dismantle the old one to see how it is short circuiting - I suspect the insulation has just been trimmed back too far on the wire cores and when you flex the cable they move and touch.

yea, i got a warranty replacement and well, same issues as the last one, except instead of thinking its always charging, its goes back and forth between charging the first bar of battery and charging the last bar (going from almost dead to almost fully charged), think ill just try get a refund at this point, qutie dissapointing

The electronics in their batteries apparently suck. I bought the Monteer 8000S and the 10000mAH battery just started behaving like this, 6 months and 2 days after purchase. I did get some messaging with Magicshine support through Amazon, but their recommendations didn't work, and now that support channel appears to be gone.

What's weird in my case is it ONLY fails in cold (or cooler) temperatures. I ran my light on the 2400 Lumen setting for ~7 hours indoors (with a fan on the LED), so the battery cells still work just fine. But after fully recharging the battery (All three charge status LEDs turn on) and then bringing it outside for a Winter night ride (30 degrees F), the LED won't power on and then the battery charge LEDs quit working too. Plugging it into the charger immediately fixes the status LED issue (shows full charge), but plugging it back into the headlight still fails to power on.

Their battery design is not ready for prime-time apparently. So now I'm stuck with a $400 head light that is going to require me to shell out more $ to buy a different battery (and it sure as hell won't be from Magicshine).

I'm having same issues with my Magicshine Monteer 5000S Storm MTB Headlight. Worked great for several months (purchased August 10, 2021) but now won't reliably turn on unless plugged in for charging and I've charged the battery for a few hours. Basically useless and I've (for now) reverted to my old circa 2018 Magic Shine 6 LED unit (which was turning off when landing jumps!) but otherwise much more reliable/functional for a few years.

How best to contact? this email is being rejected: [email protected]

Hi. A few days back my 900s and 902s both failed in the exact manner as the OP. I actually thought that perhaps I was mistaken in not charging the batteries. Completely dead, no indication lights, nothing. Middle of a dark forest. Luckily I had a spare serfas backup in my pack. When I returned home I plugged them in and immediately they both showed full charge. Once turning them on, And lifting the light head itself on both lights individually, both failed to this state once again.
I find it extremely rare that both lights were very reliable all winter and spring (purchased in October and December) and showed no signs of failure until I used them again for the first time in September. Perhaps lack of use over the summer allowed for some corrosion to take hold in the contact points internal to the cable sheath or strain relief.
I contacted the company directly to inform them of this, and while they appear very interested and inquisitive, I’m not so sure this is the first time they are hearing of this, nor did they offer any solutions other than they will “pay more attention on the cables.” . I have taken them both back to my LBS where purchased and they will warranty them through the distributor I assume.
Very impressed with the lights as we do a lot of night riding, but I am wary of the reliability over time. I did purchase a Monteer 5000 to get me through this winter until I find a better solution, and I am hoping to have more luck but time will tell.
Be aware. Keep your receipts. You may need them

Same issue now. I got mine in Jan. 2021 and this just started. Battery shows full, plug in the light and the light blinks red with minimal functionality. I just reached out to their customer support, hopefully they are good.

I also have the monster 8000 and it’s been nothing short of dog shit since day 1 .
Always shows full battery
Takes A FULL DAY to charge
Randomly turns red after a very short time riding . I’m on my second battery replaced under warranty it’s very dangerous how unreliable it is . Wish I had never got rid of my hope r8 .
Also who decided it was a good idea to not put a indicator on the light to let you know what setting it is on . You have to look at 8000 lumens to know if all lights are on .

So mine ended up being the light head! the firmware frizzed and they sent me a new one which is working fine so far.
