I am in the same boat, more or less, but hesitating between lyrik and zeb.

I wouls say it mainly depends on your weight and the travel.

At 180+ mm, no question, go 38/zeb.
At 160/170 mm, your weight and your riding style matter. If you are heavy and like to charge straight down the trail at full speed, go 38. If you like to jump around at reasonable speeds and enjoy picking the best lines, a lighter 36 might help you do just that.

I am personnaly leaning towards the lyric, but I am pretty light (165 lbs) and favor playfulness over raw speed.

What do you mean by "heavier rider". I'm 210 lbs and am on a 38 grip 2 and I must say the fork is incredible. I don't have much experience with the grip damper, only the grip 2, but everyone seems to rave about the grip damper. The 38 is not just about stiffness. The air spring is completely different than the 36 and is one of the main reasons for it's incredible performance. What I am getting at here is it's not really an apples to apples comparison with the 38 just being a touch stiffer than the 36. With how great the 38 has been for me I would recommend it over the 36 but spring for the grip 2 if you can. In the end both the 36 and the 38 are great forks but the 38 is something special.

99% of riders on a zeb/38 dont even need to be but Mtb riders with money tend to follow the sheep trends.. ie high pivot etc.

hey if you race enduro nationally or w.e then sure the bigger fork is more than likely quicker but it was designed for heavy park/racing in mind, just like HP is designed for DH bikes.. not enduro lol.

The bike i bought comes with a 170mm 38 performance grip, i have a spare 36 elite grip 2 currently and am going to sell one of them.

Sounds like 38 is the way to go.

Even if you weigh a 150lbs, if you're coming down a hill with a decent amount of speed you'll still feel a difference between a Fox 36 and Fox 38. No matter how you cut it the 38 will have less flex and will feel more precise when riding.

Go with the 38. You can always upgrade a damper. You can't make a fork stiffer.
