My 8 year old has a nice 24” Scott RC thats like 18lbs ish. Its enabled her to actually hang with us and not pitter out.

However she’s been complaining of her wrists hurting, and i see her visibly getting bucked around a tad.

So, like title says. Is there something that ACTUALLY works and is fairly light weight at this stage?

Most the high end 24" forks I have seen are actually 26" For example the Lil Shredder bikes just use 26" fox forks. The only good 24" specific fork I think is the Manitou J Unit.

I haven't tried it, but Manitous are usually good for the price and overall decent forks, and this is meant for actual riding. I have seen the Sr. Suntours and spinner grind, and they are absolutely horrible. I think trailcraft also has a 24" fork, but it's carbon and really expensive.

i have a kids bike converted to a dj and i used a 26er manitou fork that weighs like 1 gram i bought used for 25 bucks. you might have the best luck with an rst f1rst or slightly nicer suntour fork

I looked into the 26er Fox 32 and at $500 ish that slowed my enthusiasm. I was thinking more like $200-350 i could swallow.

The RST F1st Air seems to be a great option as you mentioned. Thanks!!

I have a rock shox lefemme from specialized myka for my son,2009-2013 ish era, it's even coil, so soaks up the bumps better than air fork.

So i wanna pull the trigger.

So if i went 26” on this Scott 24” bike, would i need to adjust for the extra height a tad? Or just bag it and slap it on?

26 fork or 26 wheels? I did a 26 fork conversion on my 24 inch dj and it wasnt too bad, only abt 40mm rise, which slacked thing out a bit but that bike had a steep hta and this put it in that sweet spot. Can u pm me some pics of the bike or post them to ur profile?

Bike is a Scott RC 24”. I’m thinking adding a little slack like you said may not be all that bad. So just search for a 26” fork and don’t worry about the extra mm right?

Would love to know what 26” to go buy. I’de rather invest in the fork and take it off the bike when i sell it, and use it when she grows into a 26er.

2005 Fox Float dropped from 100mm down to 80mm, and 2004 coil Marzocchi Bomber Marathon SL
@ 100mm travel.
All forks purchased as used 2nd hand, got for less than £65 each of Ebay some years back

When you say “dropped from 100 to 80mm” are you like tearing into the fork and cutting it or something? Ive read this a few times and starting to think thats what people may be doing. But no clue.

there are many ways to "bag" forks and some of these have adjustable travel

Some of these older model fox forks shared the same internals, with parts being
in different positions along the damper shaft to suit the travel of fork, by changing the
position of parts to the apropriate setting will change the travel, on the Fox float I have
there are a number of holes to set position for the desired travel length, so was easy to change from
100mm down to 80mm, no cutting or anything drastic.

Hey thanks folks for helping me along in this thread. Finding 24” forks that actually work has been a chore.

I found out i need a straight tube and not angled. Also QR with disc. My guess is this is sounding like an older Fox air 32 or 30? Gonna start hunting.

Hey all, in case anyone is reading thread still, i think i am settling on the Trailcraft TC30 fork. The Manitou JUNIT is tapered steerer and i need straight. So that ruled that one out.
