Fox and Rockshox hardware interchangeable?

I have to send in my Fox shock for warranty and I'm trying to piece together a spare shock to run in the meantime. I purchased a used Rockshox Super Deluxe Select + and I was hoping the Fox hardware I currently have (8 x 20 and 8 x 35) would work on the Rockshox shock. I installed the hardware and it does fit and mounts into the frame correctly, but, the small black plastic spacers that go on either side of the shock, being that they are from a Fox kit, are a bit too small and technically the shock has some side to side play if I firmly push and pull on the shock but it does seem to want to center itself back up.

I can't seem to find the Rockshox 8 x 20 hardware anywhere but I do have a few leads on the 8 x 35. My question though is does this bit of side to side play mean anything or can I just run the shock the way I have it with basically just using the actual metal hardware and not the plastic spacers since they're a bit too small and don't do anything.

In the attached photos you can see that I can move the black plastic hardware around a bit since it's not an exact fit.

You can run fox hardware on a rockshox shock (and vice verca) but you need to use the whole kit. You can't generally mix and match with the parts. I usually run fox hardware on my rockshox super deluxe becuase I prefer it to the rockshox hardware.

I wouldn't ride that bike without the missing spacers. You will put a lot of side load on the shock and linkage (and frame?) that could cause damage.

Yea I realize now it's because Fox uses a flanged bushing. I just pressed out the Rockshox metal bushing for a Fox bushing and it's all good.

I'm in the same boat at the moment, trying to use my old fox hardware on my new Rockshox. To get the metal Rockshox bushing out, did you use the actual tool or use more primitive methods? I don't really want to purchase a tool for $30 just to use it once.

How did you get your metal Rockshox bushing out?

You can use a socket set and a hammer to remove the metal DU bushing. Usually this will destroy the DU bushing. but won't harm the shock.

Has anyone tried installing the Ohlins hardware on a Fox shock?

Digging up an old thread.. I just bought a Super Deluxe Ultimate to replace the DPS on my 2019 Instinct.. is the RMB Shock Bearing Eyelet kit the one I need?

Remove the DU bushing on the SDU and replacing it with Fox hardware sounds about right?

What do you do with the shock body end?

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking.
Does the 2019 Instinct use a shock with the bearings at the shaft end (closest to the back of the bike)?
If that's the case, you either need to get the SDU that already has the bearings end pre-installed. Or, if you have the standard (non bearing) shock, you need that convertor you linked.
At the other end (the non-bearing end) you can pull the hardware out of the DPS and put it into the SDU, as you suggest in your post.

Note: this might be useful for anyone else searching this thread. I learned the hard way that you cannot use the rockshox bearing adapter/convertor on a fox shock. It will not fit on the shaft end. But I THINK the fox bearing adapter/convertor will fit on a rockshox shock. This coudl be an option for you if you can pull the fox bearing fitting out of the DPS and install on the SDU (probs just easier to buy a new Rockshox bearing adapter kit).

No. Those bearing kits rock around squeak and click. The only bearing kit worth using is the Rockshox one which threads into itself so it locks in tight. As for clearance to fit it, you'd have to check that yourself.

Otherwise use the 8x30mm pin kits. They are better than those bearing setups.
