@LM-CZ: you can do that if there's one rock or obstacle. You cannot on a rocky trail.
A curb isn't a big obstacle. It's a small one.

I stretched out a hardtail fork from 2-3 inches back in 1995.
People were scared of that much travel then. It was bizarre. Many preferred to ride rigid!

I'm running 175r/170f in my warden. I tried 180 in the fork but the extra made technical climbs harder and wasn't really noticable going down.
170 appears to be the sweet spot for many.

The reason to over fork is to handle rough trails better.

@maffein: how heavy are you? I couldn't even ride up a curb at 15mph with that rear pressure. Front might be okay.

Higher pressures protect the tyres and rims. The rockier and sharper your terrain the higher your pressures need to be. They also hold shape better.
I'm used to the collective internet losing their minds over me running 25 and 30psi on light weight casings. I find it pretty funny that if I put a "radial" sticker on the sidewall they'd all be in full agreement.

@PerNyberg1Bn: I absolutely agree that factory QC should catch all defects. But some always get through and it's distributors job to sort those.
We do legs off checks for all new forks, we're usually setting travel at that point.

This is awesome. But I personally think mid 90's was peak Marin. I still have my 1995 Marin Bear Valley SE.
I didn't know Joe Murray was the designer. But this all makes sense now.
