Jamis Trail X A1, is this the right bike for me?

Hey guys, I bought a 2022 Jamis Trail X A1 a month ago because I just got back into biking. The trails I've been on are decently technical and when I'm going on the down slope, I find it lacks playfulness, and the forks don't soak up anything.

When I bought it I asked the sales person if it's a Trail bike, and after I brought it home I realized it's an XC bike. That was my mistake for not doing my research and relying on the sales persons lack of knowledge.

Should I upgrade it to perform better on the trails, or should I sell it and save up for a better bike for the job?

I was looking into the RockShox Recon fork, but will that be enough to help it perform better? Or do I need to spend more on a fork. Any suggestions is appreciated.

That's a pretty standard bike for $750. XC vs trail doesn't mean anything at that pricepoint. They're too heavy for XC, not aggressive enough for trail, and the spec is mediocre. People shopping in that range generally don't know or care. Manufacturers know that, and the sales person probably knew that, too. They just spin its spec/geo to fit what the customer thinks they want. Then it's either good enough for toodling along MUPs a few times a year, or they realize they bought a bike inadequate for their needs and upgrade.

Tldr: it was your lack of knowledge, not the salesperson's.
