I'll preface this with the information that my shop sells Banshee, Transition, and Marin. Each of these brands sells "Down Country" bikes. There is a lot of hype around the Spur, and it is a fantastic bike for sure but it pains me to see other great options ignored.

I've been on a Phantom for over a year now as my trail bike. I also have a rotating bike in the quiver in the 150/170 range. Currently that is a Marin Alpine Trail Carbon wioth a 170mm fork and a Cane Creek Kitsuma Coil shock. It handles all my "big bike" needs well.

That said when I want to go out and have a fun fast ride my Banshee Phantom is quite amazing. Mine ius set up with the stoick DPX shock which is meh. If this was my only bike I'd install a CC Inline Coil. I run a CC Helm set at 140mm, relatively light Bitex hubs with Velocity Blunt SS rims, and a very basic GX build with 2.4" tires. Nothiong blingy here. Bike is about 31 pounds but if I tried could hit 29 no problem.

Frames are available from Banshee in raw and black. We have received 2 Spurs since they have been released and are waiting on several more. I suppose if a few pounds matters then wait for a Spur. If not and you want an extremely capable bike now, grab a Phantom frame and build it how you want.
