Chromoly... dmr sect, pbj short or custom need reviews

Hello everyone,

I've been riding my custom zircus for just under 1.5years now. I mostly feel like the frame specs are good. It felt a lot better on jumps with stretching the rear 10mm vs slammed. I do think something is off though. I'm thinking if I were to have a little more reach or wheel base I might be more comfortable/stable in air.

So that leads me to my 3 choices.
1. Dmr sect
2. Transition pbj
3. Merino (custom frame)

All 3 I can have shipped for sub $500. With the sect all part transfer over other than needing a new seat post and the pbj needs a new seatpost and headset.

My gripe with the dmr I wish it had the pbj ht angle of 68.5. That's it, otherwise I think it's what I'm looking for.

The pbj, I wish it was a 25mm bb drop, and didn't use the strait 44 headtube.

The merino frame solves all the issues, I really don't have anything other than I prefer the drop outs on the pbj and sect more.

So I'm looking for reviews on the dmr sect and pbj on dirt/trail jumps. I don't do nose tricks or anything like that, just dirt jumps.

Thanks in advance.

I've got a sect and i absolutely love it, its lighter and rides better than my ns decade and its night and day a better ride than my GF's zircus. I cant recommend it enough.

I rode the PBJ size large for about 1.5 years. Absolutely loved it. Really stable in the air, and super fun to flick around. Did feel a bit long for technical street tricks but if big air is you're bread and butter then it's a great choice.

Well I went sect. Hopefully in about 2 weeks I'll be able to do a side by side trail report. I'll ride/jump my current build for an hour or 2 then swap parts and ride the new frame 30min or so later.

Before and after photos, weight and hopefully video over a small table top.

I have a short pbj. Defiantly a bigger bike. Also, it does have a tapered steerer tube. Love the bike though!

I was ready to buy one, but the tapered head tube still needs to use an external cup on the bottom for a tapered fork. I was worried I might run out of steertube on my circus pro doing the stack I like. If it had a is 42/52 I would have bought the pbj. I have no doubt it's a great bike that I'm sure would have liked. If this was 2 years ago knowing what I know now I may have picked the pbj over the sect. I really hope I like the sect and don't regret it over the pbj.

The new frame showed up. Weight with 2 different scales 1 at 5lb 1oz the other at 5lb 3oz so I'll settle on 5lb 2oz=82oz=2.32kg.
8oz heavier that's acceptable.
Welds and finish look really good.
180mm rotor fits
32t chainring fits

Looks awesome dude! you wont be disappointed.

Did you weigh the zircus frame before you built it or are you going off the claimed weights?

I'd be surprised if it was really that much heavier

I did weight the zircus beforehand, I just dot remember what it was. I think it was just over advertised. When I do the parts swap I'll weight it again.

I'm looking forward to it, I know with mtb doing small changes like the differences between these frames make a big difference in feel. I'm hoping the sect makes me feel more stable in air.

Well for my body the extra 15mm of reach and 10mm longer chainstays made a huge difference. Even noticed it on uphill climbs on loose dirt, the rear tire no longer spins. That means my weight is more centered. In air it feels very stable, I can boost a jump and it no longer feels sketchy. The dmr sect custom has the geo that works for me.

Interesting. I'm planning to replace my DMR Omen frame and I've been looking at the Sect and Zircus as options! Couldn't believe the price of the Zircus (about £100) but sounds like the Sect is far better. You get what you pay for! I'd be interested to hear any other comments comparing the two frames.
