Hi all,

I have been running my custom patrol for a number of years and never felt like upgrading, but I am now at a point where my front fork is tired and cannot be fully serviced due to age. As I am looking to upgrade, I see this as a possible $1000 upgrade (not sure what the old fork will get me on the used market), but I have noted that it also means getting a fork with slightly 44mm offset rather than 42mm.

As I started looking at newer offerings, I am tempted to get a carbon scout as I can get an almost new one for about $3800. After swapping my wheels and other parts over to the new scout, I bet I can get a pretty penny for the Patrol, possibly setting me back only $3000- 2500 total for the new bike.

The question I have if folks would consider this a no brainer, or if I should reconsider just keeping my Patrol running. I am thinking Scout vs newer Patrol as I most of my riding is not that extreme and think 150mm of travel will be sufficient.

I would opt for the new Scout, especially given the fork on your current Patrol being unserviceable.

I got a barely used Lyrik RCT3 ($350) for my 2017 Patrol here on the marketplace that I've upgraded with a Debonair spring ($40) and a Charger 2.1 RC2 ($180 on sale). It's essentially an Ultimate for $570 plus $125 for the labor at my local shop. As much as I want a new Scout or Patrol, the prices have just gotten stupid. If everything else on your patrol is holding up, I'd keep it and hunt for a fork and modify it like I did.

Carbon scout is an amazing bike but if you're just looking at upgrading now after a number of years, 29ers have come a really long way since your patrol was made. Not sure where you ride or what your style is, but I'm never going back

I’m in same boat (2016 Patrol) my Fox 36 needs to be retired and the Manitou Mezzer is a top pick for a replacement. Everything else on the bike runs like a top just trying to decide if a new fork is worth it.

After demoing multiple bikes, including the new Patrol, I ended up building up a custom 2022 Commencal Meta TR and am quite happy with my decision Smile
