Hey.
I am the proud owner of a Reeb SST.
The more I ride it and tune it the more I start to fall in love. Even at the 36lb mark that I built it up to, it climbs better than bikes 4-5 lbs lighter.
4 rides in and I think I'm ready to chop the bars down a bit from 800.
Waiting on some black DMR Vault pedals to arrive and the build will be complete.
The plastic Race Face pedals are great and easy to ride in a pinch and highly recommend them except for jumping.. sometimes your foot will be where it was, sometimes it won't. Happened with two different shoes so far.
Speaking of jumping the SST does it well. So well that you will be deciding between roost and plow mode equally. I laughed after landing my first jump. I don't know whether it was the chromo, the design, the coil or all three more likely buuut wow. Like wow. It was smoother than PB and was surprising. I haven't jumped a steel bike in a while and that feeling is just so good. No material can match it when it's done right and Reeb ain't f*cking around. That stout downtube and beautiful gusset by the seatstay seem to provide extra raditude. The there is the 3d printed junction of the flex stay and seatube. Just knowing it's there makes me feel .. happy to be alive.
The Cane Creek combo at 120/150 proves to be a little finicky in terms of tuning or maybe Im new to it. The MK2 air fork yields easier to tuning and has more pronounced adjustments than the Coil IL. After some extra time getting used to the steel frame, the pivotless flex stay and all that travel sitting on top of it .. I think I got it. And it is no joke. This is a capable and quiet rig. The fork can plow through most events and irregularities no worries and has a nice pop of dive into it for some air. The rear.. just works. I'm still a little lost into the fear tune but hunkered down and restarted from scratch. It worked. Well. Just have more testing to do.
My problem is that I was tuning and expecting air shock results in the rear when it took me a while to remember that coils just move a little more when pedaling. Round smooth pedal strokes are being worked on. Thankfully their climb switch gets me into a happy place if I need to cancel the coil out. The rear end gives a bit during stand up efforts and the shutting of the LS dampening on both sides really works nice with the SST.
Otherwise the coil keeps it fast when it counts .. going down and holding on.. and the acceleration when a little gravity combines with features is amazing. Smooth. Compliant and plenty responsive when you want to play. Just don't expect it to love steep, steep stuff. It won't hate it .. but the geo runs out of the zone on that stuff although I'd also say the suspension on this isn't exactly for this style but other bikes in this travel range can. The reward is that this bike is so much more comfortable due to its more upright style. It also lets its accel at everything else, which is why you, I think we, would want this. Cudos to Reeb for listening to Lenoski on his input bc although they are west coast at heart this bike does well here on the East Coast. It's actually perfect. Holds a line well too boot. It loves to steer straight with little input making tight moves where line choice pays off another reason to give them your money. OooWeee is it planted.
It carves turns and does tech exceptionally well for having two big tires. Acceleration is rewarded aaaand with a little effort the speed starts to become more cost effective after you hit a rythym. Smooth cadence and high rpms will keep this bike making you giggle. The bike rewards hard efforts and pays in spades. The geometry lets you feel like you always have control and a great riding position. I fit this bike well at 5'9 ( medium ) and the 220 dropper does too. I couldn't be happier with all the features it has and my paint job is awesome.
Happy so far with the XT.
TRP rotors were noisy out of the box after bed in.
Alcohol and some sand paper made it better and the EVO DH brakes are strong and have a nice bite point. So do the Mazzas. They are predictable and take a few rides to learn their characteristics. Just don't expect to ever like concrete. They don't. And neither will you. Maybe at 60 psi?
The WTB Volt is O K not great but a little too padded, missing support and somewhat narrow to fit me. On climbs it was hard to find a sweet spot. Actually preferred it nose level- ish compared to a drop.
The One Up V.2 is sick.
The Spank stuff is going and will be figuring out what suits the fit and ride best.
Hope you like it.
This is one of my favorite bikes to ride. Even off the rip, it just felt natural. Not too forward and not too upright. Just right.
I'd be curious to see what the large is like but maybe for a longer travel bike like the Steezl where I'm just going to let the suspension carry me and gooo.
Anyway. Super happy with all of it. Oh yeah. The One Up grips.. eh. Kinda painful so far.

✌️
