What’s up guys,

I’m hearing this loud clanking/clunking noise when I’m descending over rough chunk. It’s really loud if I’m in any gear higher than 5th gear. If i descend in 1st-3rd gear (not ideal for descending) the bike is almost silent. I have the 9.9 X0 axs build and was thinking its the axs derailleur not having enough clutch tension. I switched to shimano xt mechanical drivetrain with the “hall lock” mod and even increased the clutch tension, it still makes a clank noise any gear higher than 5th.

I’ve checked all the pivots, linkage torqued to spec. Could it be chain pull from the hard compressions and its pulling the paws in the hydra hubs? Or is the Slash Gen 6 just a noisy bike?

Here’s a video in 7th gear: https://youtu.be/w21rGfdS4HU?si=KPrVTQ1M5bDjsPLC

Here’s a video in 3rd gear: https://youtu.be/i49Y_ObWftU?si=sKGicr9SChbOdfUo

Here’s a YouTube review that has similar clanking/clunk on the descents: https://youtu.be/K-nDK4kSiNU?si=tH06qT4d0j1ExnEF

I am trying to find the same cause. Everything about the bike is great except the chain slap. I suspect its the chain guard on the chain stay, and/or the rear fender. Hoping to see if VHS tape will fit and do a trial this weekend.

Also get a similar issue but I'm on the Fuel Ex gen 6, 9.8 spec. Wondering if you ever worked out what was doing it? Also went through the pivots greasing and torquing, ridden it with three different shocks so I'm leaning toward that not being the cause. Also considered the freehub being the cause, kind of a parallel symptom to pedal kickback. Surprisingly not much documentation on this.

I have the exact same issue on the gen 6 slash. It’s driving me crazy. I wonder if the split pivot is causing it…

Bontrager hub? I get that with mine and I am pretty sure it is the hub engaging.

I’ve also moved to vhs tape on the stays and cut a notch out of the fender. The tape really helped with chain noise.

Any success with this? I might try the hall lock mod on the derailleur

The lower pulley is getting the chain closer to the derailler, could it be chain slap onto the derailler ?

Look how close the chain is when on hardest gear, my chain is almost rubbing the derailler.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this ?

I have a 2026 trek fuel mx. I built this frame up.

I have tried 3 different derailleurs and the exact same issue you are describing I am having.

I’m losing my marbles chasing this possible issue ?!?!? Maybe it’s just the dang bike
